I've been thinking that I'd like to try a Sammi, since they're so small they'd be great in the woods around here :D Plus it's a lot lighter than a Toyota, so I could tow it with my 4cyl 4Runner easier.
I have a set of 34x9.5 Swampers that I like, and would like to use. What's the easiest way to run these? Could I just cut the body? Or would I need to SOA? Would the stock axles and gears be up for it? I have two sets of Toyota solid axles w/4.10 gears that I could use if it would be an easy swap.
This'll just be a trail-beater, I don't care about highway performance. I don't have a garage so I want to keep mods EASY.
Thanks for any info!

I'm looking at those 34's as wel for my sam. The stock gears 3.73's are not up to it even in low range. The toy axles would help (4.10's) a bit.
A SPOA plus lift springs would do it but not my favorite. Cutting the fenders is a lot of work if you want to keep the inner fenders.
Here is an article on one with cut fenders and toy running gear.

When i had my 83 I ran 34's. All I had was 2" springs and a 2" shackle lift. The 4.10 gears worked well with the little 1.0 litre engine. Then i switched them to Mud Lite in the begining also running the same lift, 3.90 gears and the 1.3 litre. It was a good bush buggy, but not good enough gearing for the rocks.

I have a friend that is running 34s and all he has is a SPOA and shackles. He has stock gearing in the axles but a GRS1 transfer case. he is locked front and welded rear and he gets it just fine:D He just has to hit things a bit harder:rolleyes:

i would recommend a soa with rear springs up front to move the axle forward and some 2 in back spaced rims with some 2in over shackles in the rear and some 4 in over shackles in the front with a pan hard bar. mike

Thats a preity big shackle up front? Are you saying 4" over stock?
I think that is overkill. He's using this for a bush truck not a crawler, SPOA will do the trick, as long as he doesn't mind a bit of rubbing.
If he doesn't have access to a welder, then just go with a 3 or 4" lift spring. If it doesn't see the road, remove the flares and cut back some fender with a saws-all.
