: need more ideas

I need more clearance in front, anyone have any ideas? The cab floor is right there behind the tire. We have trimmed it as far that way as possible. Pics would be good if anyone has done this before, I don't want to lift it any higher.
MNorbySS 01-09-2003, 03:53 PM your pic doesn't work. Need to upload to web the post URL instead of trying to link to you HD. Anyways, not sure if this is where you are heading but have you thought about a zero rate add-a-leaf from offroaddesign.com? It will give you 1" lift but you can also move your axle forward an 1" or 1.5". Maybe an idea.
ranger 01-09-2003, 08:44 PM Move you axle forward. Reindex the spring mount...:skull:
bignissan 01-09-2003, 08:50 PM www.allpro.com has some indexing plates. work well, $25 for a pair.
charlo 01-10-2003, 12:51 AM Drill your own hole in the leafs for the centerbolt(poor redneck method). Or extend your frame, build new front hangers and run longer springs same height, softer ride, more clearance, better articulation, better weight distribution.
Charlo
edit: hey man whats with all the fords?
pcorssmit 01-10-2003, 08:22 AM Hows this?

Rerard 01-11-2003, 02:11 PM pics works fine for me....
pcorssmit - Thats awsome!
IIRC, Pete "notched" his firewall for clearence. I think that is about all you can do. That, or stick a S-10 cab on it and the tires will stick out enuff that there is no body for it limit flex.
Sick rig! do an S-10 swap and let me know how it goes...it is my future plan:D
Travis_K 01-11-2003, 11:25 PM I say move the axle forward
BadDog 01-12-2003, 12:30 PM To run 42s with 4" lift on my K30 truggy, I had to move the axle forward 2", move the cab back about 1", and modify the firewall. Firewall mods included cutting off the inner fender mounting nut, hammering the pinch weld flat, and then driving back the "point" about 1" with a 12 lb BFH. I now have a minimum of about 1" clearance regardless of articulation/turn...
BadDog 01-12-2003, 12:33 PM Oh, the axle was moved using my own home-made pin offset plates. I don't like drilling springs, too much work and I'm afraid it will break, especially if the hole is near the edge of the pad/plate. I wouldn't extend the frame either. I could have moved my cab back further to get clearance, but I moved the axle on the spring instead. That gave me a nice approach angle that you would loose if you lengthen the frame to move the springs (or use longer springs). Probably wouldn't matter for a mud truck, but out here, approach angle can make the difference.
bigfoot 01-18-2003, 08:17 AM Moved the axle forward 2 inches on my blazer. Made a big difference in my approch angles and helped a lot with the tire to firewall clearence issues:D
mytzlflick 01-18-2003, 10:58 AM cut more off the firewall, I lost track of how far I tubbed mine now.
