why not install manual hubs on the rear, then you can lincoln lock it and run with power to only one rear axle. that would eliminate tire chirp, right?
problems are, of course, lack of traction. anything else someone can think of?
bored and tossing around ideas

The fact that you would ALWAYS be pushing with only that tire. Would tend to "push" the vehicle sideways slightly.

true, and contribute to uneven tire wear as well, i'd imagine.

except an open diff distriputes power until one looses traction. I just don't see why you would need to worry about tire chirping that much???

oh i'm not. like i said in the original post, i'm just bored and tossing around ideas.
the only reason i'm gonna lock my AMC20 is cuz i wanna blow it up bigtime before i buy 1 ton running gear. i'll probly lock that too, but 70/14bolt shouldn't have trouble with 36s

that was my plan until i found out 8.8" FF kits are not to be found. it should work just fine though.

I think you will find that you blow more hubs that way. I've always considered that on a full floater setup, a hub kinda intruduces a weak point in an otherwise strong setup. I'd say just live with the tire chirp and tire wear.

Real 4X4's chirp when ya turn them! Really it isnt that bad. The more air in the tire the less noise it makes. Having a spool is the only way to go in my opinion. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
