: Fuel Guage Ohm Reading

I have a 1973 FJ-40. My Con-Fer 22 gal. auxiliary tank came with a TLC 1969-09/1972 sending unit. So, when the tank is full, the fuel guage reads about 5/8 full. Does anyone know the ohm reading of the 1973 fuel guage? I want to find a compatible sender. The shop manuals that I've been told about indicate that the post-1979 senders read: Empty = 17 ohms to Full = 120 ohms. I could not find any info on earlier guages. Thanks. Charles

This was discussed a few weeks ago. Please see

Dustin, in addition to needing a new sender, it sounds like yours is shorting out.

according to my local Toy parts guy. Early = pre-1972, Middle = 1972-79 and Late = > 1979. He said that the >1979 send is 17-120. And had no info on the other two.

Medusa: do you know if the 1972-79 sender is also 17-120? Thanks.

AFIK, the post '79 tank is different (deeper) and this requires a different length arm on the sending unit. But I believe that the range of resistance (17-120) is the same. I measured the resistance of my '78 and it was indeed 17-120. HTH

Thanks. I appreciate your help. This company: http://www.centroidproducts.com/acc.htm uses a sensor that measures liquid capacitance rather than using a float. I'll order a model that has a 10-180 range and determine intermediate settings empirically.
