hey guys
what would be a good indication of bad valve seals??
i am getting blow by but my spark plugs are dry and look normal

Blowby is the result of worn rings not valve guide seals. Worn valve guide seals will cause the engine to smoke on start up and deceleration. From your description sounds like your compression rings have given up the ghost while your oil rings are still keeping the oil out.

Normal is between 155 to 185psi with a max allowable variation between cylinders 0f 30 psi according to the manual I have. The low cylinder is not low enough for it ot be a blown head gasket so my guess would be worn or busted rings or busted piston. the only way to be sure is to pull the head.

For starters pour about a tablespoon of 30wt down the low hole then do another compression test on it. If it raises it's definatley the rings.
