: Trailer Weights?
TTU-XC 01-11-2003, 01:44 PM This is something I haven't seen mentioned at all in this forum, and I haven't had any luck finding info on the web.
How much does your trailer weigh (empty)? I am trying to figure out if the vehicles I have access to can handle towing the Jeep or not, but I can't find anywhere with dry trailer weights to add to the vehicle weight
TIA

MOGXJ44 01-12-2003, 09:35 AM 7000 GVW. 4" drop axles, both with electric brakes. Wood deck 7'x20'. 84" between wheelwells. 4' tongue. 7' Ramps with lockable storage on back.
Ran it by a weigh station on the way home after I bought it. It was empty as you see it here. Both axles on the scale it came to 1850 pounds. I estimated around 150 pounds tongue weight to make it a round 2000 pounds, empty.

You mean "tare" gross would be 15,000 for this trailer. :flipoff2:

ok if you say so :D
How about this. If I use 5 scales, and place them under all four tires, and the trailer leg, add the indicated weights together, they would add up to two thousand, five hundred pounds.
Call it what ever is right, it still weighs 2,500#

Words mean things and on weights of trailers You have gross(total), tare (empty), and net(the weight of the load).:flipoff2:

Dan Dibble 02-06-2003, 08:23 AM Let me tell you the weight on your title may not mean shit. Here is my trailer. It was custom built with two 7000lb axles and 8 1/2' feet wide (legle limit) it is over all 18' with a 2' dove tail. The tool box may weigh 80lbs. I weighed it on a digital race car scale and it was 3350lbs the title says 2400lbs.

I don't think the tool box and those dogs would add 1000 lbs to the trailer. I know the weights on my titles for the trucks are right as I was there when they were weighted. :D
Dan Dibble 02-06-2003, 06:18 PM I hear ya. I dont think the guy that built my trailer had a scale(s). I rode through some scales with the trailer while on travel and always had a hunch it weighed more.
