Thanks astark, I still have to:

install the cage
install extended shock brackets and shocks
replace grill and hood
prep and paint
re-gear front end
add rear disks
build bumpers
replace windshield
add mirrors
etc....

That's a great picture of yours too btw.

my kick-ass mall crawler...

'89 Eddie Bauer with 351W/C6 and 33" BFG AT's which surprisingly don't really rub at all.

I'm planning on picking up a DD soon but can't decide if I want to keep this and SAS it or sell it and buy something older.

Just got it not to long ago so I haven't really tore into it yet. I'm on the look out for a 60 for the front and will most likely be keeping the 9". Here is my 73 Bronco, it will be undergoing several changes in a couple weeks when I get home (new 5.5" suspension, Atlas II, 42's, new hood, new door inserts, Beard seats, RSS front and rear diff covers). I recently bought this off another board member. I was doing the Toyota thing for a while there, but it just wasn't me. I'm glad to be back in an early Ford again!

This is my mall crawler. D44 front and 10.25 rear with 5.13s. It has 9" superlift coils they are stiff ass coils! When i get the cash im having a softer set made or going coilover. Three inch body lift, skyy shackle flip and 4" lift leaf springs with a zero rate block in the rear. Its sitting on 39.5" TSL's. Bilstein 5100s and chevy TREs.

Nice man, have you got to test those tires out yet?
Actually I did the last few weeks. I've put some miles and some trail time on my tires now here's what I have so far. I went from 33x12.50x15 MTR to 35x12.50x15 MTR kevlar. I'm running a Detroit in the rear and an Aussie locker up front.
On road they are much better. Quieter, lower pitch hum. Better in the rain. Another nice suprise was less sway and softer ride. That might have been from the taller sidewall though.
Off road they were much better on dry rock. I was running the same lines as a friend in a YJ with 35 inch old style MTR's on . There were a few times I could walk the rocks that he had to spin up. Last time I was there with my old tires I had the same problem.
Last week it was muddy New York trails. Again they did well. They spun the mud out quickly and gripped well.
A couple of pics.

Them and their damn MONSTROUS flares. Other than that, the outlaw would make a BADASS wheeling rig that's rather comfortable....

Howd you get 11.5"s? the biggest lift for these trucks is a 6" and I assume its a Fabtech lift from the shocks, top that with a body lift and your still at 9"s. Did you crank the torsion bars? cause you can only get about 2"s outa that. Or is it some kind of custom/redneck setup?

Plus I hope you atleast welded the 4" and stock 2" blocks together or are planning on some sort of traction bar.

it has a 6 inch fabtech lift with 1 inch blockes under the 6 inch blocks and coil spacers up front and it has a 4 inch body lift with the stock body mount still in place making it a 11 1/2 inches of lift belive me i did not build this i bought it like this its getting 36's soon it came on 33's with 36's on the truck it will be 2 inches from being illegal to be on the road in my state so i mite drop the 4 inch body lift and throw a stock one in or even a 2 inch body and run 38's and no im not hawiian im 100% american

madmaxwell87

4x4 F150s have torsion bars, no coils up front unless it was converted to coil overs which it wasnt. That much block and that much body lift are asking for trouble if you do anything but drive it on the street, hell even on the street its bad.

From the 8.8 rear end I see you have either the 4.2 or 4.6L. To run 38's your gonna kill the front ifs not to mention the lowest you can go in the front 8.8 and the rear 8.8 is 4.88's which might not be enough. 36's are even pusing the stock front end if its anything but a street queen.

Take the body lift and the extra block out, run 35's and regear to 4.56's all around and that truck will be great and last longer.

im wokring on getting sum 35's it already is geared to 4.56's i am taking the body lift out and blocks but putting a 2 inch bodylift back in just for clearnace lol

08-27-2009, 12:45 PM
good call but all you need is a 3" body lift to clear 35's,you already have a 6" fabtech so a body lift isnt necesary for tire clearance, if your doing it for general height and looks thats your choice.

What name did storm go by back then??...have any old school pix??

southern storm
10-12-2009, 10:20 AM
Southern Storm is the truck's orginial name. The truck was built in the late 80''s by Robbie Giles from goose creek S.C, it was red back then and at one point Robbie painted the truck yellow and called it southern star. After I bought the truck from Robbie about 2yrs ago I have since restored the truck and with Robbies permission kept the Southern Storm name. Southern Storm was the FIRST ever flip up bodied twin engine monster truck built. You can see old pic's of it on Dennis Tafts web site, pic's of it red and yellow as southern star.

WRONG.... Centurion & the Metropolitian by Magnum Motors made them....They are somewhat rare... Mine was built my the limo company De Bryan Motor Coach... This is documented 1 of 35 that they made so its more rare...

So not all 4 door Broncos are Centurions...

Here are a couple of the first truck I ever purchased. Not exactly Pirate material, but nice none the less. Sorry for the poor quality, they are "pictures of pictures".

1974 F250-bought from original owner with 86K on it. Had the 360 turned in to a 390. 4spd.

And here is one that we built while I was in school. It is fully functional in both directions. With a driver in both ends, it can be operated with 4 wheel steer :)
