No it's not real important, but I noticed Lower Sycamore was closed Saturday night, lots of police, big lit-up signs (like ADOT signs) and then LOTS of rigs waiting on the main road to the recreation area. So, what gives?

I heard it was because they didnt want the X-mas tree burn to happen. Not positive though.

Every year people bring christmas trees out there and burn them(big bonfire). And they have the sand drags, and all that stuff.

Every year on the third Saurday in January a guy used to bring a $hit load of unsold Xmas trees out to lower sycamore. There was a huge bonfire and a bunch of people being crazy. Last year the Sheriff broke it up with fawking helicopters, so the "guy" decided not to drop trees anymore. It wasn't the sort of event that reflacts kindly on the off road community but it was a helluva lot of fun. It's been going on for years but it looks like it's dead now.

In 2001, this *guy* (my condolences should you meet him), had a mini tree burn party the first weekend to fool the coppers into thinking it was over. Then, on the third weekend, he had the big one--trees stacked 20 feet tall and 50 feet wide.

He may still do it this year...
