I have done a search and need some help. I have removed the top cover off the Saginaw box and I am ready to tap it for the fitting. I have removed the snap ring on the end cap, but the cap won't budge, what gives? I can't get the end cap to do anything, how does it come off? Thanks for any tips.

After you pull the snap ring off drill a self tapping screw into the middle of the end cap, than use a pair of pliers on the screw and pull it out. Hope this works for you.

Yup, just like snipes says. We just went through this on Sunday, when a few of us, with the help of Dean prepped our boxes for the ram assist. I used a small dril bit to start a hole, then ran a sheet metal screw, in far enough to get a good bite. then I used the claws on a framing hammer and just popped it off,(beware there is a fair amount of fluid that will gush out when you remove it). You may have to weld some extra material onto the end cap, to give it enough material for a good thread tap.

I have used a slide hammer on a few with good results.
Make sure you clean any rust from in front of the cover and you might want to give it shot of pb blaster or croil to loosen up any corrosion between the steel housing and aluminum end plate.
Remember that you are on the east coast = rust.

thanks for the replies, tried the listed methods, cleaned out the rust with a wire brush and drilled hole inserted screw and pried like a som'bitch, nothin'. I sprayed it down real good and will give another try tomorrow morning. This is a test box so who cares, right Cheif, in case your sorry but is online keeping score.
Thanks.

If nothing works them put the sector shaft cap back on, fire up your rig and left. It will make a hell of a lot of a mess but that should work.
