Hey guys can someone help me out here. I have a buddie with a swapped in 350tbi in a cj7. Went out the other morning to start it left it idleing and a few minutes later it died. He went thru the parts changing process before I could look at it for him so now I wonder what the real problem was or is. It won't fire now unless you prime the tbi then it won't stay running. I check my jeep when key is first turn on the fuel pump runs for a few seconds then it goes off. I can't here it do that on his. but you put power to the pump and it runs. Does someone have a wiring input on the pump relay and control from the comp. thanks

If it was running before and now it's not, check to make sure the fuel pump relay is OK. May also be the neutral safety switch.

Off the top of my head, the green wire on the fuel pump relay is what the computer uses to turn on the fuel pump. The computer should ground this line when it wants to turn the pump on. The gray wire goes to the fuel pump, and the orange wire is the power feed for the relay.

E-Mail me if you need more help. (jonbruce@telus.net) I've got the factory shop manual and can walk you through the trouble shooting process and wiring.

If the fuel relay is ok, maybe recheck the timing, make sure the distributor is tightened down, maybe check fuel pressure.

I just installed a Howell tpi on my CJ and had the same trouble. My problom was at the coil, the neg side came loose. This coused the computer to think the moter was not running and not allowing the fuel pump to run. Hope this helps ,Jody:confused:

If the fuel pumps relay is bad, shouldn't you get a code...
47 comes to mind... there's a feedback wire from the relay to the computer to monitor voltage going to the pump....
I didn't hook this wire up during my conversion and got a code....

Also the injectors have their own power source... maybe you blew the fuse... everything will work except the injectors won't fire.... The computer controls the ground to the injectors to fire them...

thanks for the help guys, got a chance to work on it some yesterday morning. Rechecked the wiring and fuses ok, put new homemade pressure check gauge in line found out pump was only putting out about 5 -7 pound of pressure. Have gotten a new gm pump from dealer to try.
