I have a feeling that my clutch is going out, or my whole tranny is going out. I noticed a clicking noise on my way to work this morning, and it accelerates, as I accelerate the jeep. When I push in the clutch, it gets quiet, but I can still barely hear it, If I put a load on the clutch, without letting it out all the way it gets real loud. Any idea what it could be?

Does the clicking get louder with acceleration or faster (less time between clicks)?

The clicking just gets faster in accelerating.. not louder.

I'd vote for U-joint, partly because that's what mine sound/act like when they give up the ghost, and partly because it's about the easiest thing to check.

Im thinking a U joint too, havent checked them yet, but if I remember right, I heard a pop, right before the noise started, so Im guessing front u joint, since I can still drive fine, and my front shaft is now spinning all the time due to a lockright in the front diff.. I hope thats all it is!

reminds me of a joke we used to play on people....get a big zip tie and put it on someones drive shaft. it'll slap stuff as the shaft rotates and makes all kinds of noise. it'll scare the poop out of some people. not that i think that is what it is, it just reminds me of it. it might give some of you some ideas for your boss too <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">
