Just bought a 78 1 ton, 454, 4sp 205 chev. I want to put 6-8 inchs of lift without buying lift springs. Can I use rear springs up front with custom drop hangers? Some rear chev leafs are real long, what year and size truck were they out of? I think they were 57" or 63"? anybody gone this route?

  73-87 Chevy trucks are the cheapest and easiest trucks to lift. Unless you are trying to do something real trick, just buy the damn springs! And be thankful it's not IFS!

Whatever you do DON"T put lift blocks in the front.
Look around for prices on a lift for your truck, they are fairly inexpensive for that year. I have even come across lifted suspensions in the junk yard for chevy's.:skull:

I want to run 40s on mine, but I don't want to buy springs. Do you guys think it would work if I used add-a-leafs all around with 6" blocks in the rear, and a 2" traction lift with ORDs zero-rate add-a-leafs in the front? I was also planning a 4" body lift. I don't want to cut my fenders. My 10 bolts should hold up ok, right? Also, where can I get extenders so I can still use my stock shocks and brake lines?

lol...i have some custom stock shock extenders taht can be had for the right price
:D

you can lift a chevy the right way for $500 tops. that is with a shakle flip and moderate block use. but if you are going on the cheap, rear blocks can work. but if you want 6" of lift with no $$$ have another  cuz you will need some liquid courage to go midnite express some.:skull:

What about getting another frame, and stacking them? Then I could do the body lift on top of that and clear the tires easy. Plus I could mount the old shocks to the bottom frame.

suspension is not the place to be cutting corners. if you really want to you could use rear leafs up front but you would have to relocate the hangers and shackles to line the wheels back up cause the springs are much longer. use a shackle reversal in the back, 4 inches of lift without blocks.
stacking frames? you are kidding right?

Buy the front springs and do a Shackel reversal on the rear. Check to see if 4 in. bodty lift is legal in your state. 10 Bolts axles on 40's is asking for trouble...:(

I am not talking about cutting corners and jerking around, I want to run 56" long rear springs with dropped hangers for good flex, I am going to run Mog axles with 49.5" tires. The Mog axles give me another 5" lift on to of th 8" that I am looking for and I will let the sawzall take care of the rest.
I was just curious if anyone else had made the drop brackets before and how it worked.
Any info would help thanks.

I'm not quite sure what a "reatrd" is (maybe the latest Toyota off-road package?), but I think I may possibly be a retard, since I can't get this durn pic to post.:smokin:
