I pulled the clutch this weekend. (In my never ending teardown of my CJ).

The clutch itself looks like it's in pretty good shape, no need to replace it.

Would it be wise to have the flywheel machined before I put it back in? Or just leave it?

Are there any heat cracks or discolorations? If yes then definately.

If not, then how sure are you that the surface is flat?

Personally, unless the clutch has less than 10000 on it, I replace it when I pull the trans out & I also resurface the flywheel.

Cheap insurance, like $40.

I don't know about YJs, but I do know that the factory service manual for my TJ says not to resurface your fly wheel. It'll only cause problems because the face has to have a certain shape to it. Machining it will only cause problems.

FYI, the TJ service manual says to just remove the glaze on the fly wheel face with a light abrasive. When I replaced my clutch, I picked up a sanding sponge and used that.... haven't had any problems.

It might be something you want to look into before you get yours resurfaced and end up having to get a new flywheel.

Hey meyer! You dumb newbie! :flipoff2:

I don't think that the clutch is in that bad of shape, to be honest. hard to justify spending 150 bucks on a new clutch that's not needed.

Meyer,

I'll be over sometime this afternoon to pick up that gear puller. I've been swamped at work, didn't want you to forget.
