: rrc internal cage

any of you d1/rrc guys built internal cages?

i'm planning on redoing my floorboards (they're rusty on the PS) and interior this summer, and would like to entertain grafting in an internal roll-cage in the process.

i would like something that covers the seating area well, and then to extend down the a-pillars, run horizontally just in front of the firewall (maybe not?) and triangulate somehow down into the foot wells.

with a lot of washouts and avalanche debris covering (or not) the trails up here, flops are an ongoing concern. straddling some deep ruts I almost flopped over late last summer engaging in a not-too-bright assualt up a muddy climb; the ruts kind of kept me from going over, but getting up on the right two wheels was some real pucker (if my brother would have only had the presence of mind to snap the camera!)

as i start to ramp up my trail time here with the return of steady employment, I'm thinking the cage should probably come before any other mods.

materials, frame-tie-in point ideas and general banter are much appreciated.

Isaac, I will be installing a Safety Devices D1 roll cage in March. I know they make one for the RR classic as well. I am planing on a full photo write up on the installation too (Greg D, could you be next?)

David, I think Dale would be all over one once he sees yours in a D1. Let me know when it's in and we can schedule a trip to your shop.

thanks guys - does safety devices have a US distributor?

takes some of the fun out of it, but I'm not sure building one from scratch is reasonable with my meager bootie-fab skills

There is no reason for you to do it yourself, or even purchase a put it together roll cage from safety devices. There are several shops in the area that can build a custom SCCA approved roll cage right into your rig. Let me know when your ready to do it and I can get you the numbers of a shop around here, an example of this can be seen here. This was a cage custom built for this series and everything is tied into the frame!

That cage needs some cross braces. What would stop it from shifting side ways? Needs a big x right behind the seats.
