what can you tell me about the 390? ive heard it was made specificall with horsepower in mind, for the muscle cars. would this be better than building a 360 or a 401? what cars did these come out of?

harder to find parts..... use a 360 ...... the heads are absolutely awesome though-- bigger valves and ports than a 360, maybe bigger than a 401? you can put 390 heads on a 360 and have a pretty cool running badazz engine.

it will have the forged crank and rods like a 401, since it is the engine that became the 401 as the 290 became 304, and 343 became 360.

it SHOULD have the same heads as 360 and 401, except for a few special engine numbers they all sahre the larger heads over a 290/304.

pretty hard to find parts for a 401 is hard enough, the 360 is plenty of power for most deals, and alot cheaper easier to build/find.

360, 390, and 401 all have the same heads.

the 390 came in the javelin and AMX. it is, very, VERY unlikely that you will find one of these engines. you're far better off with trying to get ahold of a 360 (common); even a 401 is much easier to find than a 390.

i've got the cam specs somewhere if you really want me to find them.

your odds of winning the lottery are better than finding a 390. unless you build one... (360 bored .03 over, 401 crank=391 cubes).
