So starting next year I'll be building my ultimate XJ. F&R 60's, F&R coilovers, atlas 2, ect. I have been thinking about powerplants and the 5.9L from some doge trucks and the 1998 grand cherokee limited came to mind. Assuming that I could find one that didnt cost an arm and a leg how hard would his swap be? I know I cant get a harness for it, I would have to graft my own. Mainly I was wondering do I have any trannsmission choices with a 5.9? I assume it is like the new 4.7 and needs the computer controled 5 speed auto behind it. Is this assumption correct? Also what dodge's have this engine? By the way I know I'm crazy for wanting to build a XJ to the extent that I'm planning on so there is no need to tell me :D

Well I have found some info on this topic and I think that I'll prob. use a late model Chevy 350 fulie. The generial oppion seems to think that this is a much much more flexable block and an easier install. I can also use the th700 or a 4L60 between it and my atlas. I'll have to look into a stroker kit:D :rasta: :D :rasta:

Are you talking about a 5.9L V8 gas engine, or the 5.9L I-6 diesel:question:
My guess is the wimpy gas engine, but was not sure.

I was thinkign gas but DIESEL would be cool I dont know how well that would work for a xj though.

You may have some minor issues with the strength of the unibody with the big 5.9L
