i friend of mine bought a d60 at a junk yard today for $225. when we tried to take it all apart tonight we ran into a few problems. we were trying to take the knuckles off, however we could not get the bottom cap off. we took all the bolts off of it nad tried hammering a screw driver in to pry it off butto no avail. we finally got it to rotate and started beating the shat out of it with a hammer. then he started complaining that we were denting the part of it that is by the gasket and if we kept on he said it wouldnt seal. so basically my question is that if any of you know a better way to get them off. i personally would beat the fawk out of it until it falls of but he wants to figure out another way.

thanks

Aggie,

A BIG F_cking Hammer may not be enough, the cap has a little stud on the other side that centers the lower bearing. Try a little heat and some rust remover. The heat will kill the seals, the rust remover could work on the rust. When I first took out my lower bearings it was difficult.

Others may have more practice then I especially the east coast guys.

1'st take some "gunk cutter" and lube the crap outta it. Take a prybar to pop the bottom 4 bolt flange outta the bottom bearing "make sure you don't mangle the stud in the center of the cap". You can buy a knuckle rebuild kit "which you should do anyways" I bought my last kit for $30.00 each side....If he don't listen to you or us let him figure it out himself....:D

he finally got it off. he put a block off wood on the cap and hit it for what must have been at leaste 2 hours. all because he didnt want to get it scratched. oh well....i have better things to do then spend 2 hours on something that should take anout 15 minutes
