OK guys, I own a 1975 Ford F150. It is 2 wheel drive and it burns lots of oil. Is there any point keeping it? I can get almost nothing out of it selling it, how hard would it be to make it 4 wheel drive? Oh wait, it doesn't even have a solid front axle, it has the scissor-type suspension in the front. Jeez never mind, how can I dispose of the poor thing.... It was just an idea...

Actually, check out the Four Wheel and Offroad issues from last year. They converted a 2wd over. Granted, I've never done it myself, but it should be easier than most solid axle swaps. There are soo many of those trucks and parts for them out there.

actually the way i see it is it isnt very hard to convert it to 4wd. its basicly the same as swapping in heavy duty stuff to something else. but the thing about the article in the magazine was they used chevy stuff for the switch so some or most of it would not apply unless you did the same thing.

Save yourself the time and the headaches. JUst go find an old farm truck 73-79 (4x4 of course). then just throw your body on the 4x4 frame. I converted my 1979 F150 XLT 2wd to a 1979 F250 XLT 4X4 for under $800. Bought the the donor truck for $500 from a farmer (toss the body) and put $200+ into the switch. It only took a weekend to do. (20 hours or so). Take the best parts from either vehicle. Plus no special parts. That is my opinion.

You have the twin I beam. New springs, long ass shocks. Take it out and jump it till it dies.

I,ve done it and found it not to be worth it . The frames are different in the front . so eather you replace the frame or you remove the crossmem under the eng.,and bild one for infront of the moter then theres motermounts and trans mount are all different. in short it's a lot of work and cheeper to get a fixer 4x4.
hope you can learn from my mistakes.
