I have an '87 MJ CHief, 2.5, AX-5, 231, Front D30, rear D35c, and open 4.11 gears. faded red and short bed w/ light bar. some rust and a few dents.

1" of lift in the front and 2" in the back. 29" tires.

Trans and engine are shot. Need a rebuild or replacement.

This is the project vehicle.

I want power and speed and suspension. I want baja!

How would you do it?

I would ask on a board that does baja stuff, this board is about going slow with huge tires, not going fast on 29's:rolleyes:

Exactly what Hooder said.

That's why your first thread was deleted. We don't go fast around here. The slower the better.

No problem! I will head on to different parts. To each their own. I prefe to die in a high speed firey death than to dry rot at 1 mph!

I thought that my jeep with a t-14 and 5.38's was way too fast:flipoff2:

Okay you win. If i wanted to build a crwaler (to suppliment my Baja truck) how would this do.

If I took a 3.1L transverse engine and transaxle and mounted it in the middle of the frame and then hooked up the front and rear axles to the corresponding sides of the transaxles so that I have 17:1 total reduction before the trans gears get involved. Then throw on some LONG linkage for the front and the back D60 axles with lockers front, rear and middle. There would be no low range (well first in the trans would be a total reduction of 50:1 at the wheels). Add 38" and bead lock rims. I am thinking of about 3' of suspension travel at each corner. Run LP as the go-go juice.

That would be on a custom cage/frame

How would that do as a crawler?

I do like being able to say "I am going to go that way", and then go that way now matter what is in the way! No everything can be groomed gravel.

The 50:1 is before I put any extra gearing in it. That would be the "stock" set up.
