OK. I'm aware of the change in CJ's between wide track and narrow track. But this guy who works at a professional shop is trying to convince my dad that they also changed CJ's from narrow body to wide body. I've never heard of this before. It wouldn't be the first time this guy didn't know what he was talking about if he's wrong, though.

I never heard of them as wide versus narrow body but if im not mistaken the 7 is a little wider. I also think that the early 5's were narrower then the later ones. I could be nuts though.

Can anyone shed any light on this rumor instead of the "guys full of shit"

All of the CJ'5 width is exactly the same, some are shorter (CJ5) and some are longer (CJ8) but there is no difference in width except for frame spacing. For example on my 72 5 my frame is a straigh shot from the front to back, and after 76 the cj frames bowed out at the rear spring hangers. That is the only width differences.

I don't recall the exact number, but my 46 2A tub is about 58-59" wide......go from there.

I was mainly talking about any differences between CJ5's and CJ7's.

The older CJ 5's (75and older) have a wider windshield frame.
The newer CJ's 5,7,8 (76 and newer) have anarrower windshield frame.

These are the figures I remember from the best top catalog.:p

The tubs I believe are all the same width.

Just adding that these measurements are at the top of the windshield frame. At the bottom they are the same.

I shot out my 2A width, because it would likely be the most narrow tub. I measured a YJ (roughly) last night and it is the same width as the Willys. I can't see any reason why, or ever noticed that my 70 CJ-5, 78 CJ-7 or 80 CJ-5 were any different, if that helps at all.

I have not heard of the changing the width, but pre-AMC CJs were shorter. Maybe the guy can't tell the diff between length and width?:D

A guy called me the other day lookin for a dash for a CJ5 and my 72-73 measured 57" across and he said his later model measured 54"...he might have been smokin crack....anyone got dash measurements???
