how hard would it be to dump the closed knuckle drum assembl;y on m715 dana 60 front and weld on chevy open knuckle outers?

If you had the 60 outters I would just get a 60 rear and make it a front. Measure the O.D of the 70 you have because 60F's are 3.25 for Chevy/Dodge and 3.125 for Ford so I don't know if the 70 tubes are that size. If they are the same size then go for it but this will narrow your frontend because you will have to push on the "C's" onto the axle tubes so each side will end up about 1.5" narrower.

i'm jsut looking for the easiest way to get disc brakes and open knuckles on a dana 60 I can get complete for about $50.

unfortunately the m715 is closed knuckle, drum front and has an extremely unusual bolt pattern.

I basically need to know if there is anyone who has heard of this being done because it could potentially knock out three birds with one stone.

Its not worth the effort, either use the M715 axle as it sits with the stock 13" drums or wait and find a modern open knuckle Dana 60. The tubes are smaller that a modern 60, but it will have 5.87 gears...

or pickup a 715 rear and run the pair, custom wheels will run you 100-200+, or you can use the rims off one of the airport tug vechiles.

There is a company that sells a front disc brake conversion for that axle except its like 700-800:eek:

thanks...I had heard a rumor abuot the tubes being smaller but needed confermation.

I can pick up the axles for a dime a dozen....I know a man jsut outside of town here that hs a stockpile of em that he's dumping.

what tire options are there for the factory rims? I will probably be running a 38x12.50 bias ply from interco......will the 12.5's work on factory rims? I am not as concerned about looks as I am about safety.

I heard about the $800 disc brake kit, but if the chevy open knuckle outers used the same tube diameter I would chop and weld on teh open knuckle.
