What diesel did Ford use before the power stroke? Anyone know what the HP and torque ratings were for it? How about any driving/owning impressions. I'm looking at a friends truck who is selling his 93 F350 crewcab, dually w/ 180,000 miles on it. Anything I should look out for with that engine? I know some of the older diesels were kind of a drag to drive because of the low horse power, how about this one?

Try this.... www.ford-diesel.com

Should be able to help you there. Seems their site is not working at the moment though. Big message board though.

I have a 93 f250 with the 4.10's, 5 speed and the factory turbo, and it'll whup on stock 'strokes. being all mechanical they have tremendous tuneability, we're installing better exhaust, and bumping the boost and fuel, and should be looking at about 250Hp and 700 ft lbs...

If yer 93 is stock it'll come nowhere close beatin' a stock powerstroke...gemme a break

Before the powerstroke they used an Indirect injection 7.3 for a ocuple years you could get a turbo as a factory option but most are NA. They are good motors but stock are deffinetly not powerhouses they will run along time with decent maintance.

well I'd run some numbers for ya, but mine aint stock these days, since it already is intercooled, and propane injected (like nitrous to diesels). the IDI turbos make more power than strokes by running more boost, the stock HP #'s read lower on the sticker, but the baseline pulls showed about 40 HP over the factory sticker, and the stock torque #'s are higher fir the IDI turbos. The reason ford switched to the stroke was for lower noise and emissions, since if you've ever seen a IDI motor really working it's pitch black behind the truck...:trooper: and that was bad for the image due to the eco natzi's

diesel exhaust is only black when in a rich condition.
