TTT,
Still looking for the flange portion of broken fuse axle's. D90, Disco, or early RR. If you don't have any now, keep me in mind if you break any.

Despite everyone saying that the stub axle goes first I have only broken CV's myself [or seen others break CV's] - not one suposedly weak stubby!!!!
Thats after some good thrashings with 35's - I think you will have to weaken them - which I have never been a great fan of....
Only series Landys seem to break stubs :flipoff2:

i'm too much of a lazy arse to lookup the thread link, but roverwrench had gone so far as to machne a groove into the stub axle, trying to make double damn sure it would be the weak link. also, the groove helps it break cleanly (hoping for a clean snap). i thought this was a pretty novel idea meself :D
i have to say though that jeff hasn't gotten much love on this thread- c'mon guys, follow bodge's lead here and help a brutha out! i remember an awful lot of big talk on the "broken axle" thread . . . not much mention of stubbys in it, though. i'm curious to hear feedbak on this as well, with an impending front-end rebuild somewhere on the horizon.
cheers,
isaac

Yeah the Aussie's have started grooving their stub axles [well the ones I was talking to :D ].
But that just doesn't seem right why should we have to make our already pathetic weak drivelines weaker :(
Obviously I would rather pay for a stub than a CV and they are easier to change by a long shot - but I can't see how you would know how much you are weakening it by. Whats to say that if it wasn't grooved you might not have broken anything?
I guess trial and error
Time to get out their and do some field testing guys - let me know how you get on :flipoff2:

bodge - would you rather replace a fuse or fit a new wiring loom? ;) do we have a new tagline now? LR -> home of the groovy stubby . . . .
i still have yet to grenade my 32 spline CV's, 10 spline axles, or open carriers. i try to be easy on it the ol chap, cuz it's only a matter of time . . . i don't think my CV's are very healthy at present

I don't like to talk about how much luck I have had with my 10 spliners and 2 pin diff... Its just the sort of talk that gets you broke....
Superstitious?
You bet - I own a Rover :flipoff2:

I know the feeling! Everything was fine till I started saying good things about the worlds only "unbreakable" D44 of course now i've gone through several sets of axles and think there is definitly a D60 in my future!!!!
