: Dual exhaust issues

So as my 61 80 sits right now the exhaust goes outside the frame from the motor(chevy350) between the frame and the spring!! I don't like this setup. Has anyone been able to run dual exhaust within the frame and clear the T-case? I also have a PTO unit on the driver's side to deal with, but I may just sell that. I'm thinkin I may have to give her a 1" body lift to be able to keep my pipes in the frame, because making sliders under and around exhaust pipes would be retarded.
Any help or pics would be great thanks

Why duals? I run a single 2.5" down the inside of the driverside frame rail, the muffler is tucked up right where the body steps up, and goes straight out towards the back and turns down slightly before it gets to the bumper. Everything is well protected by the frame. This is behind my Cad 472.

That's a good idea, I want alot of backpressure for compression braking, etc., so single would work.

Anyone else? Dual does sound cooler I think, but is more expensive for twice the pipes and mufflers,

Does anyone run headers in a scout w/a 350?? I'm wondering if the headers meant for the motor that's in there would work. There seems to be plenty of room around the engine for them.

I run a single 2.5" with a Flowmaster in my EB with a 302. The power is better than with my old set of duals w/turbos and the sound is great. Muscular but not overly loud;)

I run dual 2" on my 64 all inside the frame, so it is possible. However, they both run down the driver's side and then tuck up tight in the rear.

I am switching to single exhaust at some point though...

Lotta' guys grind off the cast "ear" of the T-case for exhaust clearance. A set of 60's dragster zoomie exhaust coming out of the hood may work for you also.:flipoff2:

Zoomies would be sweet!

I saw an old Impala recently with the spark plug to the tailpipe trick done so it shot flames out the tips, That would be cool too on the scout except, being a firefighter, I know what can happen if I did this on the trail to show off then started a forest fire and gave everyone some good exercise running from my new creation, not to mention the sierra club pinning a destructive fire on a wheeler.

So I think I'll nix that idea.

Single is sounding better by the minute. I do have a 3" in dual 2 1/4" out flowmaster off my old truck, but fake dual exhaust is really lame. If anyone wants to trade this muffler for a 2.5" in/out let me know.

I have true duals on my SII and I am going to have them put into one muffler with a single 2.5" outlet to the rear.....getting tired of the noise.

im running stock 345 manifolds to 2 1/2" into a dynomax and it sounds beefy as shit...that nice international sound, but not all redneck and dumb

ok these are great responses. I think once I can afford headers I will have a 2.5" single setup installed. Now the question is what kind of muffler. Sounds like the dynomax is loud and proud, I'm not a fan of the flowmaster and in a Mustang dyno test the MAC mufflers made the most noise and power on a stang. I also found out that Hooker makes mufflers which I didn't know and I've never heard of anyone running them before so the ideas continue.
Thanks for all the info.
Anyone know about the header deal?
I have a chevy 350 to a jp t18

I have a generic stock type muffler. I don't like loud exhaust on a wheeler.

Aw Fawk, for my 500 I have already fabbed up Sanderson block huggers into 2 1/2 into a collector , 3 1/2 out through a Flowmaster 70 series big block then down to 3 inches and out the pass side behind the tire. Was hoping for quiet with a nasty growl when the ponies are let loose. Harkoff how far back are you exiting? how many R's are you turning on the highway?

I have a pic of my setup if someone wants to post I can email

Chrome, how much extra horsepower is that good for, or does it help slide over the rocks

It helps reflect the light from your rock-lights.. instead of getting absorbed in the grease and grime on the underside of the tub, the chrome reflects it back down to the ground - like a mirror.

:flipoff2:

I have chromed headers for my pickup to install..

Not more hp, its just nice to be able to sit under the rig and see my reflection:confused:

Actually it is a thermal barrier coating from a local guy. It was a pita to work out all the bend radiuses and angles going from the block hugger headers so I wanted these to last as long as possible. I had to special order different radius 45's and 90's from summit and whitney. The 3 1/2 inch stuff was also special order. Less heat radiating in the cab is a bonus.

Saving the chrome for my new chain link steering wheel

I'm also running a short dynomax muffler (14"), should of went with the longer style... the exhaust goes clear to the back, about 3500 r's keeping up with traffic. going to 513's so that will change a little:D I hpc coated my headers, it made a difference on heat, plus it don't burn plug wires

3500, wow. I should be turning half of that, lockup converter, 25% od, 3.54, 33"s

lets see, im running true 3in dual exhaust with turbo mufflers and SS tips..sounds really nice and i can actually feel the difference in the performance. had the guy run all-aluminized piping.
