: Valentines Day is WAY Overrated
MudBunny 02-10-2003, 01:06 PM So I told Greg on the weekend NOT to send me a dozen red roses to the office (waste of money).....NOT to go out and buy me a frivolous gift just for the sake of buying me something and NOT to spend money on a card (waste of money).
Is there any other woman out there that truly believes Valentines Day is a trumped up "holiday" invented by the merchandising industry to sell more chocolate, flowers and jewelry by pulling at the heartstrings of the love-lorn and those in less confident relationships?
Greg tells me every day that he loves me. I don't need no stinkin' gift to know he loves me.
Personally I would rather Greg put the money he would spend on Valentines Day into our savings account for our FAMILY trip to Disneyland this summer.
Anyone else feel this way?
Motornoggin 02-10-2003, 01:10 PM You said it MB. I think it's a crock. I don't buy no stinking flowers, no friggin card, no dinner dates, no NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! But for some reason, for about a week after, my wife won't talk to me or gimme no lovin! Is this normal?:D
MudBunny 02-10-2003, 01:12 PM Pssssssssst.....maybe you could try showin' and tellin' her you love her every day of the year - that way she won't expect a "dog and pony show" on the one day of the year that its "expected" :)
suburban grl 02-10-2003, 01:16 PM Ya i agree with MB.....but this is kinda like our Anniv since its been a year since we got back together(yeah fer us! ) so i kinda went all out and did some things this year...but in general....buy me some daffidals for a buck or a pack of smarties on the way home one day and that would make me happier then buying it becauce you hafto!
:)

Wait.....did I just ask for advice from someone with squishy undies?!?!?!?:D
I tell her everyday that I love her. I try and show it too, but I am a selfish bastid and sometimes don't think about the little things that maker her smile.

Goofball - its SpongeBob that has the squishy undies :D :D :D
Sometimes it is the little things that matter more.......when Greg peels the skin off my chicken before cooking it - well that just makes my heart melt    seriously tho', it just goes to show that he's thinking of me - and that is more important than receiving a bouquet of flowers on the one day a year he's EXPECTED to buy them!
Bad analogy, I know - chicken skin vs. bouquet of flowers - but it works for me! :D

I cut up my wife's chicken & steak.... something her dad always did for her when she was little (before he died)... I hear what ya' are sayin ;)
suburban grl 02-10-2003, 01:44 PM Unless i am in public(like a restaurant) Rob always cuts my meat for me..i wont it it if i have to cut it so this way i will at least take a few bites so the kids see me eating meat/chicken etc :)
Strange but tru! hahaha :D:p
another thing he does.......he always makes me my nightime snack before my good shows are on tv..so i can sit an enjoy them with my snack and my tea and not hafta rush during a commercial!
hehe

Much the same way the Diamond council has worked to convince every woman out there that if a guy doesn't buy a diamond worth 2 months of his salary he really doesn't love her?

Funny you should mention that Joe.......cuz me and Greg were talking about that just the other day. I told him that I wouldn't even want to wear something that valuable on my hand - first, I'd be too worried that I'd lose it, and second - I'd much more appreciate the gift that really gives - an Atlas II! :D
J/K - guess I'm just not too much into material things. *shrug*
Being happy in life means much more to me than material items.
GonPostal 02-10-2003, 03:36 PM MB...
I ran your comments through my Marriage Language Translator Ver 3.012 and here's what came up...
You said: "NOT to send me a dozen red roses to the office (waste of money)"
Translator: "Save money and personally deliver the flowers. Show up really early in the morning so I have the edge on the wives/SO's in the office...."
You said: "NOT to go out and buy me a frivolous gift just for the sake of buying me something"
Transloator: "Don't buy something frivolous... buy something meaningful. A box of candy hearts won't cut it. Gems and/or gold, only please..."
You said: "NOT to spend money on a card (waste of money)."
Translator: "The flowers and meaningful gift better be accompanied by a card..."
Ok... so it's all tongue and cheek... Or so I thought about 4 valentines ago. I did the "nothing" route and vowed NEVER to go down that road again. Despite the fact that we agreed not to do anything, it made for "hollow day" that year. It was one of those damned if I did, and even worst as I found out, damned if I didn't.... That was the only valentine day I purposely missed in my 25 years of marriage...
BTW... thanks for the reminder... have to go shop
I told my girl I loved her every day. I kissed her every time I left the house and bought her flowers whenever, for no particular reason. I did things like start her car for her when it was cold out or raining, or make nice dinners. We also ate out every Friday night at a really nice restaurant on the marina.
Valentine's Day is a marketing ploy. Your GF/BF should be well aware how much you love them all year round.

Roxywheels 02-10-2003, 06:12 PM Call me a greedy materialistic bitch but I like Valentines Day. I always did all the little things daily to show that I loved him and so did he, but I loved Valentines Day...it made me feel special and gave me a chance to show him he was special. I didn't want roses or even candy, although I enjoyed them...I loved getting a pretty girly card and having a special evening together.
As far as diamonds...for being the none girly girl that I am I LOVE diamonds and make em big! :D Now...if I didn't get that I wouldn't think he loved me any less, but if you ask me what I want I'm gonna tell you that I want at least 2 carats in platinum! :D I, in turn would buy him something equally valueable. ;) :roxy:
CoryB 02-10-2003, 06:16 PM I tell my wife several times a day that I love her.
But that doesn't mean I can't get her a gift for Valentines Day.
I got her this...
