: Toy pu rear axle under an XJ?

Has anyone swapped in a toy pu axle under the rear of their Jeep? I have a 2wd toy rear that a friend left here about a year ago (guess it's mine now) and figured it'd have to be better than the 35c under my XJ now. I may be talking out my ass here but it seems it would work well with only a few fitting changes (brake) and the pinion flange. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks... :smokin:

I don't know about the right bolt pattren. I have a 86 2wd toyota and I'm pretty sure the bolt pattren doesn't match my XJ's. I could be worng though, but it would be a good thing to check.

The '86 2wd toy's use a 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern, same as XJ, TJ, YJ and (gasp for you non-ford people) Ranger Bronco2 and Explorers.

Now if your wheels will cause interference against the brake drum is another issue ENTIRELY:)

Yeah, if its the width you want, go for it, and if the carrier and ring gear become a problem, swap in a 4wd 8" third member, it will bolt right in (i think)

strong axle for it's size, great ground clearance. i say go for it. would be preaty easy to shave if you wanted more clearance. but remember 60's 60's 60's:rolleyes: i had to get that in before some one else did even if i don't think they're for everyone. ;)

Thanks for the info guys... Forgive the delay but I'm kid/dog/cat/house/business sitting while my folks are in Mexico. Needless to say I haven't had much time to look into it. As for the 60 60 60 comment, they're going under the 'cruiser if I can get off my ass and start working on it again. :) Besides, the XJ's just for light/mod wheeling and as my GF says, "it's got ac, lets take the Jeep."
