They have a few different locations but I think AZ is one of them. If I went it would be Glendale, IL or Orlando. Just curious right now.

What are you going for?

I have been to the Phoenix campus for auto/diesel.

I am not sure yet. I will be working on diesels and gasonline engines on ships and small boats so I was thinking about Marine Mech but I am more limited to where I can go I guess so I was considering Auto tech too. Either way I am seriously considering both. How was it? What was your overall impression? Thanks!

UTI was a fawking joke. Way to fast paced to learn anything, and the school told employers that you would be ready for anything once you were finished with them. So, the employers would throw you in there with line techs that have been in the business for 20 years and expect you to keep up. I know several people that don't even work in the business anymore, but they still have the student loan to pay.

I got tired of being lied to, and being made to jump through hoops. Everytime I turned around it was something new. Programs that you were told were "no extra charge" suddenly needed a $2000 cash deposit to complete the course. Tuition jumped on me while I was in the middle of the program. I was told that the top 2% of the class got to work on the school sponcered race car. Well, that car was moth balled 3 years before I got there. Housing that they were supposed to arrange for you was pulled out from underneath me. I was left homeless when UTI didn't renew the contract they had with the apartment complex I was in. It would have cost me all of the deposits and 1st last months rent and all the other BS to get into another place.

Not very cooperative people at all.

If you want to work on big marine stuff, I would say go join the Navy or the Coast Guard. Let them pay you to train you, and get some good benefits out of the deal. If you think you still haven't learned what you want, take your GI Bill and go to school on that. It's way too much money out of pocket to find out that you really don't like what you are doing. At least in the service, you have some kind of chance to switch your MOS.

my friend is there right now, he likes it but then again he likes everything he does.

Fyrman brought up a good point, if you like marine shit the coast gaurd would be a great choice.

Good pay, cool job, total job security, i would go that route

Why?

I'm indebted up to my neck, can't negotiate a decent interest rate to save my life since my net worth is negative $40K, and i graduated with honors.

Still continuing with my 3 year articling program (9 mos left) and i'm working 60+ hours per week, on salary for only 37.5 hours per week. (no O/T)

All for about $26.5K gross salary in your dollers (USD).

What's not to love about For-Profit Education?

I see the future benefits, and enjoy the challege of my job, barring the ups & downs of minor details.

Hey, the grass is always greener. Get used to it.

Well that takes care of that. Thanks for the info and I am in the Coast Guard :D The only reason I was wondering is because from what I was told unless I am certified in the civilian world my knowledge is limited in it. Hopefully that will not be the case.

You certs don't mean shit on the outside. You will have to go through civilian training. I can't imagine that UTI is the only place to go though. Is there any way that you could find more schools through somebody you work for or with?

Yeah I am looking into that. They also say that if I have it through the CG then it will be a matter of just taking a test pretty much in the civilian world. Either way I will be getting training and hands on experience while I am in. Thanks for the info again.
