: fj 45 run!?
orangefj45 11-07-2001, 07:49 PM that's right! we're thinking about putting together a fj45 wagon and pickup run next summer. possible destination is bassey falls by rubicon. it's an easy trail that a stock rig will survive without body damage. follows a stream to a set of waterfalls. good camping, fishing and wheelin'!
let me know what you guys think!
so far we have about 5 rigs. 4 wagoons and one BUILT 45 longbed.
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
peterfj40 11-07-2001, 08:59 PM sign me up!!! i'll be there!..i might even have my truck rebuilt by then..or i'll just take it stock!!!!...even before next summer would be awesome!!! i cant wait

Dog House 11-08-2001, 07:50 AM Hey what about us ol' FJ40 wheelers? We aren't invited? No body want's us along anymore!:crybaby2: :crybaby2: :crybaby2: :flipoff2:
Medusa 11-08-2001, 08:41 AM As you can see in the following pic, I have a bit of work to do before either of my 45s will be ready.
http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~jrice/cruiser/FJ45/blastingframe.jpg
BTW is this having fun or what??:trooper:
70Cruzer 11-08-2001, 09:17 AM hey fc got an open seat?
considering mine looks like medusas :D :D :D
Hey Medusa, your picture looks a lot like my 45LV except that I haven't even gotten to sandblasting yet. I plan to take mine to a business here in Dallas that will sandblast and powder coat frame for approx. $400.00. I plan to put in a chevy 350 with auto. trans. I am trying to get this done by next summer but you know how that goes. Good Luck! :usa:
FJ45Mike 11-08-2001, 09:33 AM I will be there! She will be goin in a few weeks!
rdfj40@yahoo.com 11-08-2001, 12:51 PM i'll be there if my heap ('67 45 Waggie) is running.
gonna be SOA, FJ60 axles, 350/420.
Bad Dawg 11-08-2001, 03:02 PM Hey orange fj45, (Remember me? Bad Dawg from Idaho),
A friend told me about your run and I thought I would join in on this web site.
Haven't been able to work on the 45 yet. We would love to make it to your run next summer but we're in the middle of finishing up the new Big Block for the race rig (FJ40) for next season. If we can finish up a couple of other projects we might give your run a shot. Sounds like things are going well.
I'll attach a sot of our rigs for those who haven't seen them yet. The 45 has a long way to go yet. Looks like you folks here have some good ideas for the build up. I look forward to tuning in more.
Bad Dawg 11-08-2001, 03:27 PM OOPS. I thought I attached my other picture of my two rigs. I tried again and the system says it's too big. I'll see if I can make it smaller...hmmm.

Hey mr. 69what are you planning on doing with that thing?
orangefj45 11-08-2001, 08:29 PM I"M SOOOO STOKED!
so far we've got about 10 rigs. by late next summer i'm hoping to have at least 20 of us going. just think about the group pics!!!!
medusa: you're an animal. get that baby on the road!
don: let me know if you need any tranny parts. also, have you considered doing the 203 doubler? same lenght and about the same cost! i've got a 350-203 adapter for ya if you decide to go that way!
bad dawg: nice to hearfrom you again. how's wildest cruiser in the west? get that wagon running and come on down. do you want to go to the foster mud flats in oregon in a couple of months? i'l keep you updated on the event schedule!
the way i see it we have about 10 months if we do the run in late august. that should be planty of time to get 'em running!
and oh yes, i think we should allow other cruises to show up also. it's not our trail and as far as i'm concerned, this is more like a cruiser reunion or picnic and not a serious wheelin' trip anyways.

its all good Jimmy :)
I dont think any cruisers are nececarily not invited, just trying to get a gob of 45's together. I like toyotas and I love Land Cruisers but I DIG the wagons big time! Its just cool to see a bunch of them in action. We just did that 55 run a few weeks ago and it was a fricken blast! 14 fj55's. Its not often you see that many 55's in one place. Every one there couldnt belive how many 55's showed up. Now getting a bunch of 45's together on a trail is gonna be something else.
rogueturtle 11-08-2001, 09:27 PM Medusa are you installing a beach in the back yard with dunes or without?
ranger 11-08-2001, 09:42 PM If I only had a FJ45......sigh......:( ....I would be there....:skull:
rogueturtle 11-08-2001, 11:44 PM 45s rule. You gotta love the older generation. Maybe some 55s should come along to watch what we will look like when we grow up to be old and feisty cruisers.
:D
Hey Orange45: Thanks for the tranny parts offer. I have already assembled the following parts: 400TH tranny, AA adapter for 4spd Transfer case, 4spd transfer case out of my 77FJ40.
I do need one part for the kit. I need the short shaft that goes in the transmisson. AA offers those but do you have one laying around?
I know that I would want to go with the 3spd. tfer case or the 203 setup to do serious crawling, but that is not the plan for this one. I plan to do a modified rebuild for more street than trail.
Thanks, Don.:usa:
Medusa 11-09-2001, 07:57 AM Medusa are you installing a beach in the back yard with dunes or without?
Naw, I was hoping the wind would just blow it all into the neighbor's property:)
Actually after going through the first 100 lbs. way too fast, I figured I had better devise a recovery system:smokin:
orangefj45 11-09-2001, 06:05 PM don! is it the th400 short output shaft you're after? if so i can hook you up. call me at work 800-991-0117 georg
AUTOS RULE!!!!!
:D
Taylor 11-10-2001, 08:27 AM Orange 45
We will be there with maybe One built FJ45 short bed if I can get it done, 1- FJ45 stock long bed and FJ45 stock wagon. So put the Taylors down for 3! I am the guy that had the FJ45 long bed at Hollister Two years ago and we took pictures with my rig and yours. Our Pictures didn't turn out did yours? If so can you send me a copy.
orangefj45 11-10-2001, 05:44 PM the taylors: glad to hear from you guys!i saw jamie's wagon at the swap meet. is that the one you're going to bring up?
i do have the pics from a couple of years ago and will have some copies made for ya.
e-mail me your address to georgesterer@yahoo.com
that's over 10 fj45's so far!!!! this is gonna be huge.
:D :D :D :D
fc187 11-10-2001, 06:35 PM well hell, this sounds cool.
I was stoked to take part in our 55 run last month. :fj:
Now a all 45 (LV/LWB/SWB) run! :bounce:
If some one gets a 68 corona run together, My life would be coplete :D
Bad Dawg 11-12-2001, 06:14 AM Orange 45,
The new 540 big block is taking longer than we first thought it would and eating into the year and our toy fund. I don't think we will have everything done in time for the Foster Mud Flats race (we're also redoing the steering and fuel lines). We sold the engine out of the 45 a while back, so that's a start on going through the wagon.
Speaking of the 45, I think I have found a copy of it that this web site will let me post.
Keep me posted on the Foster race and any others you hear of.
fc187 11-12-2001, 05:26 PM Is that a Cruiser front turning those meats
Whatcha got inside that thang?
RockDog 11-12-2001, 06:46 PM DonM,
Why not just put 3spd gears in your 4spd case. That is what "Red Fox" did with his daughters cruiser and it works great!!:smokin:
I have a friend at "Canyon auto and 4x4" in Canyon City Colorado
Giving me the guts from a 3spd case to do just that...
Bad Dawg 11-13-2001, 06:17 AM fc187,
Up until last year we were running a 454 big block built fairly healthy (~700-750 hp) but the lighter rigs we race against started kicking our butts so we are selling the 454 and started over this fall with building a new engine. It's almost finished and comes in at 541 c.i. (what is in it is a secret). It goes on the dyno in a couple of weeks.
We kept blowing up birfields so we replaced the front gears and axels with the Warn birfield replacement axels and a Aurburn limited slip 4.11. The rear end is a custom gusseted Currie F**d 9" (Land Cruiser/Chevy bolt pattern axels) with a 4.86 spool. We're running a custom reverse pattern T400 automatic with a Grinner tranny brake and a slap stick B&M shifter in front of a NP205 transfercase. MSD ignition, etc.
We miss the old rock crawling days before the FJ40 got out of control so we found a clean 45 and are starting to build it up to get back onto the trails. I saw pictures of Orangefj45's rig on the 45 web site, hunted him down and visited him on a business trip to see his rig last year to get ideas on our build up and find out how he fit his Boggers under his without cutting any metal. I have a lot to learn from all you folks about the 45 and I'm anxious to get working on it.
fc187 11-13-2001, 07:06 AM wow! sounds cool!
cant wait to see how the 45 turns out
orangefj45 11-13-2001, 05:43 PM hey bad dog!
talked to the guys in oregon today. foster schedule right now is for the first weekend in march. i'll update you as we get closer.
you know, fc187 only lives about 5 min. from me. wagons everywhere!
see ya, Georg.
;)
Bad Dawg 11-20-2001, 06:02 AM Orange 45,
Finally got time to get back into this web site. Sorry I didn't get back to you. Had a little set back on the new engine...found out we had "0" clearence between the valves and pistons. Our choices were: get a smaller cam (I don't think so!) mill out the pistons (= less compression=less hp), or have some custom pistons made and keep the compression (around 13.8 to 14:1). So our time table has extended out by about three weeks. We would love to finish the rig in time for the Foster race. We'll see.
I'm thinking this is way off base for the "45 run" topic. There used to be a topic for big blocks in fj40's on here someplace. I'll try to find it and move the race rig stuff there. Sorry for the pollution to the main topic. :emb3:
Bad Dawg 11-20-2001, 06:07 AM Orange 45,
I forgot to ask: When I visited you, you took me over to see a really nice and clean LC being worked on. Did he finish the project. It looked awsome even unfinished!
orangefj45 11-20-2001, 09:41 PM are you talking about whitey's 45 longbed?
just fired it for the first time last weekend. 40 inch boggers shoould be here tomorrow and then she'll be going for a spin around the block. hope to have the rig more than ready for oregon.
;)
Bad Dawg 11-21-2001, 06:27 AM I think that's the one. I think I remember it being green. It was in a really small garage under his house? If I remember right he was doing a fancy suspension. I would love to see some pictures.
I'm taking the Dawg over to have some custom headers made this afternoon. The last set was 2" and I need to go to 2 1/4"!
:D
Hey Orange45, are we still planning a 45 run? I've sold my 40 to finance this 45 rebuild. About to go full speed and try to get ready for this run. I've been hung up waiting for a local club member to sell his 350 to me so he can install a TPI in his 40. I want to get the engine and transmission together so I can weld the mounts on before sandblasting and powder coating the frame. BTW I am still looking for some inside door handles (2). Rick D. doesn't have any available.

ROCK HUGGER 02-03-2002, 09:57 PM You may have to find another trail for the trip, from the sounds of things Bassi will not be open very much longer!
orangefj45 02-04-2002, 09:36 PM we've already found a couple of alternate locations and will be checking into them further when the snow melts. looks like the run will be at the end of august. on my birthday, what do you know?! should be a fun bash.
don: you better be there! especially since the rock dogs will be hosting the event and i'm hoping for your help. we'll talk soon.
if any of you out there plan on coming or are interested please e-mail me so we can get a rough count. i think right now we're at about 18 rigs, but you never know.
