let's see where this goes:flipoff2:

Since the rear is the only one that matters on the road

The question should be front or rear? My answer is different for each.

Best for what? Trail only rig or a DD?

spool it or detroit it. Let the :rainbow: 's on JU worry about the occasional onroad quirks of detroits :D :flipoff2: :D

I really like my ARB's - there is nothing cooler than that sound of compressed air being released as you toggle them off :smokin:

If you use a spool or weld a diff, you no longer have a differential.

I know that you need an answer for each end. I also know that this is not a driver, but you do drive it to and from events. I also know that you have a couple of guys roped into installing whatever it is you decide, nice move. My advise is to choose the Detroit's, have them installed. Then generously pay the installers, treat them to lunches and dinners. Wash their vehicles, and volunteer to do any dirty nasty work that needs to be done, ie. 'hand scrub the frames with soap and water'. Be eternally gratefull.

I know that they are much different, but the poll only allows for 6 items, and since they behave the same, I grouped them together.

rear spool or detroit, front i would say arb but since my recent switch problems:mad: i would say detroit or arb with manual presure switch.

Mercedes Benz Galendawagen factory hydraulic lockers front and rear....just to be different!

Or one of the many Toyota electric or cable lockers!

ARB for the front, Detroit for the rear:flipoff2:

I've only ever run open diffs or an ARB diff. I like the ARB. It's awesome. In theory it's a spool when you want it and an open diff when you want it. Besides being expensive I don't think anyone will argue that having ARBs front and rear isn't an optimal choice for a rig that drives itself to the trails.

I've got ARBs and aside from teething problems, I love 'em. However, there's a new one for Rovers and 'Yotas: Macnamara. Supposed to be super strong and well designed. Your choice: Air activated, Vacuum activated, or Cable activated.

If I had it to do over, that's where I'd look.

ARB's front and rear, of any of you read the question properly it said for the rear only since it's the only one that matters on teh street...

and my choice is ARB, never feel it there and no accelerated tire wear and no chirping/banging etc... and i can afford them :D

Well, Ive only had a trac loc and a detroit in the rear of my heep, but I dont know if I could go with anything different besides a detroit in the rear.. spool the front.. as long as you have manual locking hubs :)
