: wall thickness of dana 44

anyone know what the wall thickness is of a dana 44 axle housing? I know it is 3.75" OD, but i need to know the ID or wall thickness.

1/4" to 1/2" Depends on what it's out of. Are you sure about the 3.75 OD? That seems awful big.

My Waggy D44 has 3" OD tubes and they are about 1/4" thick.

The HD D44 in f250s have 1/2" thick tubes, but i dont think the OD ever got as big as 3.75".

No way on the 3.75" OD. It's either 2.75" or 3" if it's Jeep or Chevy. Scout are 2-5/8" (I think) and so are TJ 44s. The wall can be as thin as 1/4" or as thick as 1/2", depends on what it came from.

sorry typo they are 2.75" from a ford.

Most fronts are 3/8's, HD's are 1/2"

I'm pretty sure all FSJ d44 fronts are .5" thick...

Nope, I've got two Waggie 44's that are both 3/8". One's a '76 and the other is a '79.

Learn something new every day. I'm running a 78 j20 front which is .5", never did check the 79 waggy front it replaced :emb2:

All the front high pinion ford units I have seen, except the ones that have cast in C-bushing mounts (mid 77 to 79) have all been 1/2" thick, including the 1972 unit that is under my rig.
