: How to fit 44's on an IH Pickup with no sawzall
Hooper 02-12-2003, 11:28 AM Well, here is my latest acquisition. Went out and took pics of the orange pickup. It is not exactly a beauty, but at least it is orange.
Didn't think it had springs and axles when I first heard about it, but it does. Gotta love 12 inch lift springs, and the ghetto fab steering (sorry if somone on this board did the build on this but, really....) .
So, the springs are coming off to be sold to help pay for my brother in laws soa on his scout.
He and I are going to tear the engine down and rebuild it.
I need to get a picture of the steering box, Tom M might be interested in that. Haven't even peeked under the hood to see what it looks like, it is too high to see into right now.
I am going to use the 4wd components from this orange one to make my white one a 4wd. That means taking everything from the tranny back, divorce drive shaft, divorce transfer case, tase cross member, front driveline, rear driveline, etc.
Mark A (Rusty) wants the bed, and there has been discussion from the Oregon folk about needing some other pcs. But, as you can see, there is some rust damage, and the cab is not in really great shape.

What, you don't think it would flex well? Bet it would have an awesome ramp score...
uglyscout 02-12-2003, 12:13 PM What? Your not going to run it with those springs and steering?
Shadow man 02-12-2003, 12:13 PM WOW!! :D

You know, I had not considered it, but.... it would save me the trouble of stripping the front drivetrain out of it to put on my white pickup....
RustoleumWhite 02-12-2003, 02:05 PM one can not behold the true glory of this thing with out actually seeing it....

RustoleumWhite 02-12-2003, 02:06 PM However, if the mounts were redone, and the angles set up properly, and the steering done right (not sure how "right" would be with that much lift, but cross over definatly, and probably lowering the PS box). The springs are actually a pretty good fit (would fit up to the 2wd spring positions), so big lift Chevy springs (most likely what these springs are) as a good option for lifting old IH PU's... but, with more lift = more arch = stiff ride....
WireGeek 02-12-2003, 02:12 PM At least he painted and "coated" the frame for you!
So ya wanna sell those killer shock mounts/spring pads!!! I'm always looking for unusual artwork.....

Scoutaholic 02-12-2003, 06:35 PM That's funny. What some guys will build. When I say "A guys gota build sh*t" I don't mean the sh*t literally.

My wife had to come up and see what I was laughing about after that one...
Yeah, it will be the ultimate scoutmobile. Lots of room to haul all our boy scout camping gear all over the wilderness, and the 4wd to get us there and back. Probably have to swap for a bench seat though. Only two seats doesn't make a lot of sense for what I am going to use it for. 3 seats is a lot better...
slipscomb 02-12-2003, 09:23 PM Good Lord Hooper! Gonna have to put a beacon on top of that thing to keep airplanes from flyin into it!

Dang, Hooper.. I thought you had too many kids already!!
Besides, for that, you need a Travelall.. fold down the back seat and go for the queen sized air mattress. :D

ROFL. Yeah, it is so tall, it has snow on top of it.
But, it will be down to reasonable size before long...

Gonna change your name to chief eagle eye. Dang, I haven't even gone over it that carefully yet. I'm new to the full size game, although somehow I seem to suddenly have a stable full of them.
I'll go over it carefully and check things out. thanks for hte heads up...

Why apologize Pat? If someone on this board built it they ought to be publicly flogged!
tsm1mt 02-13-2003, 09:55 AM Hmm.. mine doesn't seem to have the notch..

But it IS cracked

And repaired on the other side..

I guess I should fab up some beefier brackets before I throw it into the 1T.
I like the new frame side brackets you have, Chief. Beefier than the stock little angle steel chunks.
On second thought.. those must be the stock pre-69 brackets.. and since my NP205 sits just above the frame, I don't think they'll work and still allow me any bushings..
Hmmm...
T1H5_TA3 02-13-2003, 11:45 AM come on pat, let me come over and paint some flames on that bad boy!
look at all the room fo up travel! the boys at 4 wheel parts must have built that beast...:flipoff2:

Actually, I have yet to paint any of my rigs.. they just all seem to be orange.
Take heart, though, my other pickup is white, but not for long... :D :D :D
