I voted for 60 even though at the moment Im using a 48. I plan on upgrading to a 60 in a couple of weeks.
I carry mine in slide in mount under my flatbed.
Should have room for a 60 I hope maybe need a little trimming :)

I bought a 48" and wouldn't even lift the back tires off the ground. I took it right back and traded for a 60". At that time it had 2" blocks in the rear and stock leafs with 33x9.50 AT tires. Coarse I had a tube bumper that I built that was alot higher than the stock bumper. On a stock truck I think a 48" lift would be O.K. but on anything thats lifted a 60" is the only way to go, IMHO. You might be able to make a mount and put it inside the cab against the roof... just make sure the damn thing doesn't come loose and brain you on a big bump.

Mount it to the factory roll bar?
GRMhick

Yeah, my 60 gets up there when picking up my 4 runner. I just shove mine on the side of the seat and wedge it against the back of the truck. I also dont have a roll bar though. One thing i have seen is to have people bolt it ot the roll bar, which may work, but I dont know as i dont have a factory roll bar. My sugguestion though is to leave it inside the truck.. they dont work nearly as well when they are rusty.. and you seem to always find that out whe nyou are in a jam.

I have a 48" right now, and I have use all of the jack to get my back wheels off the ground. 60" would be nice for those odd ball you never know situations. The 48" does fit nicely inside my toolbox though, keeps it out of the weather.

I'm using the 48' one and it's definately far from being enough jack. Definately go for the 60'

My 48 just barely fits behind my seat (standard cab 1 gen pickup) and thats a must. I needed a highlift and I didnt want to worry about its location.
Its like my shovel I take with me wheeling. Its a standard size shovel I throw in the bed when I KNOW I am going wheeling. The other day at Sears I found a 3 foot one that fits behind my seat with the high lift. So now if I forget my shovel or endup on a unplanned wheeling trip I still have a shovel of sorts.
It would bother me to have to worry about if I remembered my 60 Highlift.
All I have to now is find a decent fishing pole to fit behind my seat with the rest of the junk!

60" off the ground seems way high and unstable. I keep any extra tiedown strap to wrap around the axle and frame before I jack up. Simple, effect and safer.

A 60" Hi-Lift will bolt across the back of a 4Runner in the factory hardtop holes. I actually made plates with threaded studs and wingnuts that bolted to these holes, and the jack bolted onto them. The downside is that eventually it will start to tear apart the body seams, but by that time, that was the least of my worries (as anyone who remembers my Runner when it was full-bodied will agree). :D
I have a 48 and my truck tips off it if I use all of it. I have never needed more on the trail. Thats what rocks are for.

I use a 48" and a chain with a grab hook. Chain the axle to the frame before jacking and it lifts the tire in the first couple clicks. :D

I would go for the 60 even though I have a 48!!! But then again the 60 will not lift a wheel off the ground on my truck unless I use a chain around the axle and frame!!!! Changeing tires I use a bottle jack and a piece of plywood!!!!:D

Has anyone ever used the hi lift for an emergency hand winch?
The extra 12 inches would be a big help in that situation.

We all know we'd like an extra 12 inches... Like mentioned, too much is always better than not enough.

Here's where my 60"er was. A couple of the old rubber shock buchings and it rarlely made a squeek. My 60" is bent and I couldn't get it warranty for shit, and has never been used off road, just in the driveway :flipoff2: I plan to by another from a local tractor supply this time and see how low it lasts. No clue where it'll get mounted on the new rig though.

I've got a 60"...better than too short! Mounted it along the left side inside the bed on the top of the wheelwell with 2 b c- shaped brackets with cross bolts that bolt through the holes in the jack. Works but kinda rattles sometimes even though I zip tied the handle.

60" For sure! Just because the jack is 60" doesn't mean your vehicle will be from the point of the jack to the top of the 60" you can use it off a ledge, or off rocks, or a stump... etc etc..
We've used them to jack the vehicles up all the way and push themoff things that hi-centered them or to lift as high as possible and then snatch from the rear to pull off...
Just cuz it's 60" tall doesn't mean you will be jacking it up 60" ... even if you had to jack it up 60" and push your vehicle off a log (stand away from the jack) I don't see a problem wtih this.. ive done it.. and a 48" would NOT have worked.

48. I don't think anything bigger would fit inside or outside a Flattie.

Get the 60".I started out with a 48" but as my truck got bigger it became useless.
You can get out of just about any stuck with a HiLift and a shovel:D

48, cause I didn't even know they made a 60 when I walked into Ranch & Home and bought the thing. Still called them "handyman" jacks from my days on the farm. Carry mine mounted vertically, bolted to the rear crossmember and bracketed to the tub. A 60 would be too tall to fit that way - it'd stick up above my hardtop. Stays nice and clean, and easy to get at in this spot.

Well if you want to trade let me know, I have one used and abused 48 and a never used (got in a trade) 48" i could trade for a 60. If you want to keep the actual high lift parts, we can swap just the bars

I have a 48" hi-lift and it barely gets my tires off the ground. I would go 60" if I was in the market today. Mine is bolted to the cage in the bed of my Scout.
BUT ----- My 48" is plently unstable and dangerous as it is. So a 60" would be even worse. HI-LIFTS are SUPER DANGEROUS ----
What I need are air jacks!! That would be the way to go. :D :D

48" I have never need more than that . Like several posts have said... "chain the alxe to the frame before jacking and you only need a few clicks to ge it off the ground" If you need to do any thing else use your winch!!
I've got a 48" and it worked just fine with my cj7 on 35s, now i could see where a 60 would be useful, but a 48 and some chain for the axle works.
Where the heck do you put a 60" high lift in a CJ7?
Anyone have some picts?

I'm surprised no one mentioned this with all the talk of "not tall enough to get my tires off the ground"
put a strap from the frame to your axle before you jack up the truck... viola! now you don't have to lift so high and become more unstable...
for getting unstuck obviously this won't help, but all I ever use my hi-lift for is changing birfields.

If you have a suzuki, a 48" is all you can carry.
I thought about the 60, and decided that I didn't want to put axles, a hitch on it and pull it around

the 48" is too short to lift my truck from the rock sliders...its an SOA scout with 36s...and modified (AKA no) rocker panels
its mounted to my roll cage
