in the latest petersens a sami made it top 10 truck of the year...

it says it has a 2 link rear suspension WITHOUT :confused: springs, just with two 300psi nitro shocks

can somebody elaborate on this.?:D

I think it is Brain ellis ..He has a sweet rig..Light as hell, 44's front and rear..

The rig belongs to Randy Ellis,
It uses a two link set up with a pan hard bar. The shocks are pressurized (300 psi) to hold the a$$ end up but still allow it to flex. He's been a top ARCA competitor (definately the wickedest sami in the competitions :D) since the beginning (used to have a jeep CJ-8 in the first couple of comps). I can't remember the rest but it was sort of featured last year in "4wheel drive and SUV" under ARCA competitors where they were comparing light weight, low power and lots of gearing to heavy, big and tons of HP. I'll find the edition and post the full specs.

The guy is Randy Ellis. He is running a D30 up front and a D44 rear. That thing looks so sweet! There is a couple videos on this board of him (on home page, click video clips). And he has a hell of a cage. ~Steve

I found those pics! These are pics of the rig in it's first competition, notice the straight panels and most of the sheetmetal still intact. Can't see much of the rear suspension in these pics though.:(

Now that ive noticed im still a newbie, I can ask a few more stupid questions.

I come from circle track racing back ground, and was wondering why in competetion, these rock crawling guys arent wearing helmets? I know for the most part, speed isnt a factor, but a roll could result in contact with a rock, or rocks, and a series of rolls could end up in a somewhat violent roll? For people just out wheeling, be it with a group of friends, or an organized trail ride would be one thing, but event insurance for competetion, I would think that protective gear would be mandatory. Every picture I have seen has drivers without helmets.


I have never been to an event, and am still heavily under construction with my rig, so im clueless as to what kind of conditinons these events put the drivers into, but in any case, your head, along with other body parts, are easily able to come into contact with rocks, or other materials?

A lot of them do wear helmets, actually. And I suspect that many of them dont wear them because of the heat making it uncomfortable.

...But what do I know about wheeling in CA - I'm in TN. :rolleyes:
