hey all, i've got a question regarding CB mics. well...i've got a midland 77-285 in my truck and i like the radio itself, but i'm wondering if there is a way to combine the 4-Pin mic plug with a PTT unit for a hand held unit. i like the throat mic and the earpeace with the remote PTT button velcro'd to your finger, but i'm not sure if it's possible to mix the 4'pin with the 2x 3.5mm stereo plugs. thanks.

you could possibly build something like this, the only thing I've seen that was close to this is a VOX mic, you'd have to find a CB shop in your area for one of those.

take the microphone for the CB apart and make a diagram of how it works and build an adaptor box- you'll probably need to use a relay to keep the switching the same.

you might also check this out if you want a few extra channels or a few more watts- radio mods (http://www.radiomods.co.nz/midland77285.html)

also a diagram of microphone pinouts here (http://www.radiomods.co.nz/index.html)

A two wire adaptor would be too much damm work for me. But there might be ways to make it a 4 wire, and then problem solved! U might also want to look around for a mic setup like U R talking about made just for CB or amature radio. I have seen things like this, but at this time, I can't remember where. I'll keep my eyes open, and see if I can dig any of my old radio catalogs, and find a source.
