I have a chance to buy a chevy
two wheel drive one ton dullay truck
that has been burned real badly.
it is the rounded body style nothing like the
75 or the next body after the 75

it has a throtel body fuel injected 454
whith a manual trany.

any idea what year it is ??

is this possibly a nv4500?

is ther a big diference between the
2wd trany and the 4wd.

if it is a nv45oo I would put a atlas
transfer case behind it.

as all ways youre help is greatly aprishiated.

4500s have a removable bell housing, vs the 3500s integral bell housing. 4500s also have PTO provisions (pretty sure on both sides).

I'm assuming you checked the shift pattern to make sure it is a 5 spd? They did run a sm 465 behind the TBI 454 from '87-'91.

well on 1 tons (subs, crews, K5s) the body was pretty much the same from 73-91 with a front sheetmetal up date in 81. The half ton trucks changed over bodies in 87. So it being a rounded and FI it has to be newer than 91. From what I understand the NV4500 started in 94. the 94and 95 being the real desirable 7 something granny. after that it went to a 6 something granny.
Now even if that truck was 4x4 it would still be a IFS truck. Have you looked for a transfer case under it yet.
If it's a NV4500 2wd it should be able to be converted with parts from Advanced.

It's a 2WD, according to original post.
Does it have a Vin tag on the dash, or is is toasted beyond recognition..

Only the crew cab, Blazer, and Sub stayed with the old body until '91. The regular cabs all went to the new style in '88, along with the "new" extended cabs.

I 'think' the 4500 started in Chevys in '92, and the desirable (for four wheeling) gear ratios (6.xx granny) were in '92-'93. The more streetable gear ratios (5.xx granny) started in '94, along with Dodge useage of the 4500.

looked at a truck in the parking lot

and determined that it is a 88 0r newer

also dash is completely gone.

but I did look at the shift tower to
see if it was damaged it looked ok

and I remember it was aluminum
does that rule out the 465?

thanks

Somebody on here was recently talking about an SM465 that they had with an aluminum top cover...sounds strange but they were quite sure it was a 465:confused:

It's a 4500 then. Score dude. Pull the train, attach an Atlas, throw some starter fluid in and your gold! It's a BB Chebby, should fire right up! :D

How do you figure?

BTW, if it is a 4500, make sure you put the correct synthetic fluid in it. About $55-60/gallon is the cheapest I've found it.

Good point on the VIN! Even if the dash is toast the VIN should be stamped in the frame somewhere. On the 73-91's K5's it on the driverside frame rail. Scrape the crud off with a puddy knife. The VIN will have the year and if you can talk the dealer into running the number it should be able to tell you about everything about the truck.

went to advanced adapters web site

and it says sm465 was in chevy from 1968 to 1988

so it isnt a 465.

it says Quote chevy used the np435 sparingly

then in 1993 went to the nv4500

so sence it is a tbi and not a vortec
and if I remember corectly the vortec came out
in 96

It is eather a np435 or the lower geared nv4500

some one mentioned a nv3500
But I cant find any info on that trany?

I will not be able to check out the truck again
untell next weak.

thanks

According to the Bible, the 465 was used "pre '92".

I'm pretty sure the heavier trucks stayed with the 465 until the 4500s came out in '92.

I believe the 3500 is the light duty 5 spd they used in the 1/2 tons (and LD 3/4s). Not too strong, and no granny.
