I just baught a 98 Dodge 60 front

ball joints, 1.31 30 spline shafts

i plan on running 42"x15"x16.5" TSL's on Hummer Wheels

What is the easiest and cheapest way to upgrade this axle to handle this size tire?

switching to 1 1/2" 35 spline shafts if so whats involved ?
does anybody make HD alloy shafts

I plan on running the Cable Loc (160$) to engage / disengage the axles.

I am also planning on running a spool but cannot find one for a 30 spline shaft

FWIW the axle will be going in a 98 Jeep Wrangler

A buddy of mine is working on the same problem. He is bypassing the CAD entirely though. In order to fit 1.5" 35 spline axles (new 5.13 gears with ARB), he had to machine precision brass seal seats for proper fit since he could not find seals that matched the tube diameter and fit the shaft.

Sell it and buy a King-pin Dodge or Chevy. Those things are junk. I've got one of each, and the newer Dodge one is a joke.

is it possible that someone builds an alloy shaft to fit the housing? if so it would be as strong as a stock 1.5 axle (or thereabouts)

dynarape sells a kit that puts 1.5" shafts, that are 35 spline, and chevy one ton warn hubs on it. It is machined to fit in the cad area, and ride that bearing/bushing. They arent cheap, and also you still have a housing that is weaker than the older ones. Dodge did that to cut cost... as for running 42", i dunno... i would watch out.

Just put the 42's on it and if it breaks find a real 60. You might get lucky and not have any problems.

Both Dynatrack and Right Gear & Axle make kits to convert them to part time full float 35 spl. But they aren't cheap. I'd be willing to bet you can buy a complete Ford RC60 for just a little more than the kit to convert yours costs.
