: Hummer Rim Re-Center in CA?
IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 09:26 AM Hey, I searched but couldn't find anybody that does hummer rim recenters in CA. Anybody have a lead? The closer to Sac, the better!
Edit: I have the rims, I just need to get them recentered with a different backspacing..

IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 09:38 AM take a look at the first 3 words in my post.:flipoff2:

Hey search boy...
You didn't try very hard, seems like damn near every other post is showing hummer rims. Are you looking to just get the centers & weld them yourself, or are you looking to pay someone to do the whole thing?
Either way, check with 66CJDEAN
Bob
IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 10:47 AM hey boob, I tried sacramento hummer, california hummer and a few other things. :flipoff2:
I don't know about welding them on myself. I'm not worried about the welding, but am worried about keeping everything square and true.

TJBob 02-26-2003, 10:58 AM How about Hummer Centers (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=471987&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending).
Funny thing is that most of the people that weld the centers will accept and perform UPS/Fed Ex shipping to and from their locations.
If you can weld, then do it yourself. I set 3 large sockets (4" spindle sockets for heavy equipment) on a flat steel welding table and sat the center on top of the sockets. Sockets measured 3.5" tall and that's the backspacing that I was looking for.
I've gotten my rig up to about 60 mph without any shaking, so I think my rims are pretty well centered (I don't have enough engine to get over 60 mph though).

FULLSIZE 02-26-2003, 11:01 AM "hummer wheels" netted this thread and if you go down about 15 posts dean replies. shows were he's from and everything............

IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 11:01 AM I don't want to pay shipping as I am poor. I'll have to think about the welding them on myself. Anybody else do this with sucess???
Thanks Boob, sorry Bob. :flipoff2:
-Jack
IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 11:07 AM I admit that if I really wanted to I could have run a very broad search (like "hummer wheels") and read every post (even the ones with 15 and more replies) to MAYBE get a hit on somebody that does the recentering in Sacramento... But I didn't want to. The whole purpose of a search is to narrow it down to a reasonable amount, which I wouldn't consider "hummer wheels" to be. That's why I tried what I did.
I've seen a lot worse posted up here without this much hassle so :flipoff2: and thanks!

Nothing like a personal attack by calling someone names right? Geez, get over yourself. While I may have picked on you for your lack of searching skills, I did provide you with some useful information (66CJDean's screen name), would you also like to know that Loomis, CA is not that terribly far from Sacramento? Unless of course you are too cheap to afford gas.

IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 11:35 AM Dude, just kidding! Relax! I was saying thanks!

Hey Jack,
Dean just finished a set for me. I was just going to get the center from him and do them myself, but for the price he cuts the old center out on mill and bead blast them too.
Dan
IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 12:58 PM Damn Dan, those look good! $100 each with all of the work and $40 for the centers alone right?
-Jack
66CJdean 02-26-2003, 01:44 PM Damm I really like that silver and black combo!
That style center posted above goes for $55ea and it is $100ea if you drop off a wheel to get done. I will beadblast the whole wheel, cut out the center on the milling machine, and I have a fixture that allows me to check runout of the wheel and center with a dial indicator to make them all true. If $$$ is a big deal then by all means they can be done at home with a little checking.
doctor_G 02-26-2003, 01:50 PM Dean, Those pics that Taz posted up, are those the other style centers you had available?

Tazz Killer, thanks Dude.
all i have to say is DEAN IS THE MAN......
"if you are considering hummer rims and want them fabbed up,and don't go to dean to do them ,you should get off the pipe"
 look at that shit IT'S SICK HOW AWESOME THEY ARE
kwrangln 02-26-2003, 03:14 PM Ya also missed THESE HUMMER RIM CENTERS (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=117980) when you searched. Even some of the guys doing recenter work gave them praise. Not taking anything away from the guys that have been doing recenter work and supporting the board, but I think the bar has been raised. Just an option.
Ken
66CJdean 02-26-2003, 03:19 PM For sure those are cool.
Yes Doc those are the new style I had done. I like them allot and they are a little less weight to.
66CJdean 02-26-2003, 03:31 PM Thanks Big D.
Are those beadlocks on their way to me?
IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 05:08 PM Dean, you do some bad assed work!!! $$ is an issue as I don't have a J-O-B. I don't mind welding them myself as I am a decent welder, but I'm worried about getting everything dead-on with the setup.
You need the shop swept around there or some computer work (need a customer database system setup or a website)? I tried selling myself on the streets, but Lance was the only one that was interested and well, we won't go there. :D
-Jack
66CJdean 02-26-2003, 05:39 PM Whe do you want/need these done? Can you sand blast them clean yourself?
IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 06:01 PM There are two areas that I am concerned about. the machining of the outter ring and the setup of the new center. I can clean them up with a wire wheel weld them if they've been tacked and do everything else. I could probably try and set them up as well but the only flat surface that I really have is the garage floor.
-Jack
IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 06:04 PM I'm a patient guy as far as time lines... I can be up tomorrow or in a few weeks or ???

If $$$ is a big deal then by all means they can be done at home with a little checking. Dean, can you go into more detail on this? Because of shipping, total cost, and me with a job in the computer field I can't afford anything but a DIY. Any hint?
If I had some extra money, I'd send them to you in a heartbeat.
66CJdean 02-26-2003, 06:26 PM What you need is a flat surface to work with, something to shim the center up to the right height that is also flat, and a feeler gauge if the center doesn't touch the sides of the rim to self center it for you. The Hummer rims have a taper and they vary some but most often with mycenters they will self center at about 4" of backspacing.

Then they could be done for $75ea. That would save you $100
IronBenderII 02-26-2003, 06:47 PM Sweet, thanks!
