Hi, i am going to weld my rear diff no matter what anyone says about buying a locker, lockers are a bit too expencive for me on a high school budget..... so what do i weld? pics would be great, but a good detailed description would do......also i'm not exactly sure what the spider gears are of any other names of the gears except the ring and pinion......:^) so a location of where the gear is would be great too.
thanks

Do a search in the general section and the toyota section for welded diff or lincoln locker or something along those lines. Some one posted a bunch of pics awhile ago about how to do it

Its pretty self explanatory when you open it up. You want to weld the spider gears (small, 4 of them) to the side gears( what your axles slide into) and to the case as well for added strength. I recommend having a welding shop do it unless you're real good. I broke a spider gear after a week of driving on mine. If you're going to do it yourself you should pre-heat and let it air cool. Good luck.

The spider gears are the little gears in the middle. Ring gear is the big circle. pinion is the gear on the shaftwich turns the ring gear. Now take the 3rd member down to some one who knows how to weld it will cost you like $15 and it will be welded right... Good luck CHUCK:eek:

I have yet to see one hold up. But if you insist, if it moves weld it. Jamb ball bearings in any space big enough...................fill it.
In 6 months when it gives away, and you have Fawked your gears, buy a locker.
Better yet, save up now for one.
