I know I should have asked this like a week ago, but i dont get online much anymore so here I am, 8 hours from leaving and i'm rather clueless on the best way to get there. yahoo maps says 8E-79-78-86N which seems like a lot of slow going on little windy highways, and i've heard just to take 8E to elcentro and then head north on 86, but i'm wondering if thats way outta the way. Who's been there, and whats the fastest way, Its my first time goin out there and i'm clueless. Thanks guys.

No no no don't listen to those guys, it's further by bus.
Why don't you look at a map and find one of those squiggly blue or red lines that goes between San Diego and Salton City then follow it all the way there?
anybody that knows has already left... you're screwed.

Take Highway 8 East to El Centro.
Take Highway 86 North towards Indio.
Start looking for lights on the left out in the desert after about 35 Miles.
Turn left onto N. Marina Dr. It will turn to a dirt road, follow the main road/wash until you see the main central vendor camp, go past that and look for the Mickey bombs on the right side.
You can call me at home today after 4:00 if you need to.

I've never been on 79 or 78, so I don't know what type of roads those are. Too bad you didn't ask Todd.

79 so. is fast if your not heavy/underpowered,much faste(easier on your vehicle) than76 thru PALA. traffic @ the border checkm on the 15 can get you crawling for @ 10 min but when traffic backs up the border patrol clears the lanes and traffic flies.Temecula hads groceries and gas and a atv store right on 79 so. if you need anything!

What....?
So which way should he go? 79? 76? 15? That paragraph is one nasty run-on sentence.

I don't know ..flatlander.. I live at altitude maybe a little oxygen deprivation has occurred:flipoff2: .a little humor from the other side of the mountain:D ....If I lived in North (s.d.)county, I would take the 79 so. (Temecula ) off the 15. If I lived down by say Mira Mar area I would go the back way thru Ramona to the Warner Springs area and turn east to Ocotillo Wells. In S.d. I would go by way of the 8, and the go north to the Salton Sea.

So did you decide to stay home or what? There was no evidence that you ever made it out. Maybe next time. :D
