: 35mm camera, what's it worth?
rusted 03-02-2003, 10:28 PM I've got an old camera outfit I bought from a photographer in 1990. It was old then.
It's a Nikon 35mm camera, with the lens on it.
Vivitar 200mm telephoto lens.
HCE macro lens.
Rokumar (???) 2x teleconverter.
Polar filter.
Couple other filters.
What's an outfit like this worth?
Amanda G 03-02-2003, 10:38 PM I dunno but I'll give you $5 plus shipping for it. :flipoff2:
tail_lite 03-02-2003, 10:42 PM nikon, being a world class camera, would bring a hefty price if that set-up was not out dated by the digital camera.
thats a tough question....with out doing a lil' research....
ChevyGal 03-02-2003, 10:44 PM What model is it will be the first step in being able to tell. Then the condition. I have an old Canon that has an all metal body and in decent condition. I saw one for sale here in a shop for $1200... A good way to tell is look up the camera once you know what model is on eBay... you can usually see what the market value is on there....
rusted 03-02-2003, 10:55 PM Thanks for those tips, and thanks for the generous off CG. :flipoff2:
Come to find out, it's a Nikon Nikkormat FT, circa 1965/67. One of the first SLR cameras available to the general public, and it's all mechanical but got some features that make it desireable for a photographer.
It's definitely been outdated by the digis, but it will still take world-class 35mm, if you know what an f/stop is. :D
I'm waiting for an appraisal now. I saw an FT2, circa 1975, appraised at $160 for a used model.
ChevyGal 03-02-2003, 11:02 PM This should give you some idea of what your Nikon (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2 F&krd=1&from=R8&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=2&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=Nikon+Nikkormat+FT) is worth.... :)

Yeah check these out!
One with less accessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2913487360&category=30035)
One with only 2 lenses. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2913487360&category=30035)
Mine's not (edit IS) in better shape than those two. It still works fantastic.
Sweet! I finally have a worth old ebay item!
Thanks!
*edit* Oh, I forgot a link to mine. (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/trailrig/camera.jpg)

my guess is in the $100 to $150 range maybe 2 depending on condition. I have several old Nikons and Minolta's and while they still take great pictures they were so mass produced they don't command nearly the retail value of my old Leica. Figure with the lenses etc maybe add another $100 or two on to that, it'd be worth more with Nikon lenses. Hard to say without seeing condition. Lotta this stuff just doesn't hold value well

If I pull $200 out of it I'll be lucky. But, I didn't pay much for it and I used it for 5 years or so.
well see, there ya go. That's not an unreasonable expectation :)

Hell, I may keep it. It's a 40 year old camera that takes great pictures.
Damn, I've never had anything that old, unless you count my friend's mom that one time......uh, I mean....
trampas 03-03-2003, 12:00 AM My dad gave me his old Fujica which had everything your Nikon has, telephoto lens, etc. Without second thoughts, i dumped it off on www.Craigslist.org (locally) for $110. - and it took a few weeks of free posts to find a student who wanted it.
landusepbb 03-03-2003, 08:42 AM I sold my Nikon F2 for $350 six years ago. But, then again, the F2 is arguably the best 35mm camera ever made.
The used prices here could give you an idea: B&H (http://www01.bhphotovideo.com/default.sph/FrameWork.class?FNC=StartLink__Aindex_html)
It's been my experience that if it's in good shape, people with closets full of Nikon's will buy it because that's what they do. If it were mine, I'd keep it and find some good old Nikon lenses for it ( a 50mm and a 24mm maybe?).
ChiXJeff 03-03-2003, 09:47 AM Nikkormats are pretty cool cameras; that what I learned to shoot 35mm with. My oldest sister picked hers up in Berlin around 1972, and it still works. Light meter has been repaired at least once, though.
It's hard to beat some of the old metal bodied SLRs, but you have to be willing to go full manual shooting.
Having said all that, I use a Canon Eos 630, the lowest end Canon SLR I could get 10 years ago that would go full manual.
