when a new ez locker breaks in does it leave lost of shavings? Should you change the oil soon after the install?

dont have an answer, just curious what others think. my lockrite is popping like a mother (like 20 times after each turn) out of the blue, it was perfect before. anyone got any ideas on this before I rip it open. it was a super tight fit to get the spacer in before so I figured the clearances were pretty tight. but I probably figured wrong, wouldnt be the first time.

I don't know about the ez locker, but my lockrite did the popping thing after about a year. As it turned out the sidewahers had worn to the point it started to pop when underload wheeling. Is it possible the shavings you are finding is the thrush washers as they are a softer material then the locker. Yea 69cruiser your going to have to open up that rearend to fix it as it is only going to get worst. The fix is to pull those side washers and replace them with the next thickes up. If you still have the installation instructions it give you the specs on the spacing of the drivers. Hope this helps. :usa:  :usa:

Got the thrust washers at the local Toyota Dealer - several different sizes available. My Lock Right made it 2 years and then started popping out. Replaced with a No Slip and am moving the Lock Right to the front with the new thrust washers...

There shouldn't be any shavings from the locker. I would tear it apart and check it out. If the washers were dry (no grease) when you reinstalled them, they probably got worn a bit.

I don't know that much about lockers, but it could be shavings off of any bearings that may be in there. i just had to rebuild my transfer case after finding shavings on the plug. turned out the bearings had gone bad on the drive shaft outputs and wore the gears unevenly. Good news is i have a virtually new t-case, bad news is that it could have been avoided and it cost a buttload. anyway the moral of the story is to check your bearings when you find shavings.

Hey guys I hate to say it but those of you that are getting more frequent popping are getting closer to the end of the lockright.

Here is my story

My lock right started popping after about 6 months, and i changed the washers and it worked a bit better and less popping.(I had popped the dif cover at least 3 times and had shavings each time, that is pretty normal for a diff) Then about a month later the popping got bad and i checked the clearences with a feeler guage and they were within the tollerances said by the manual. I pulled it out several times to look at it, and there was never any obvios wear. So i traded sides with the locker, so it used the other face of the gear, and that made it like new, but after a few months it began to pop again.

Here is the fun part, not to long after i realized that everyone who said they were just were correct. I had pulled of the road to wait for a friend, and it was a little muddy out, and to get back on the road my tires were spinning a little bit, and when one tire hit the pavemnt BANG. It still drove but it would rapidly pop and bang when i downshifted or pushed on the gas. And when i would accelerate out of a stop lite sometimes it would just free spool and all i would hear is a buch of banging noises.

When i pulled it out, there was still no obvios damage, and i compared it to a new one. There was a little wear on the corner of each tooth, maybe .001 of an inch, and that is how they wear it is un noticable, and when it finally chipped off that last little bit it would not even push me down the road. Every time you turn and the "dog clutches" ratchet they wear a little, and that is why they are junk, especially in a rear end that gets some milage, they wear out quick.

Put the spider gears back in and weld them. Lock rights are even worse to drive with on the road, and waaayy worse off road. And they don't last.

WELD WELD WELD.

Hope that helps
Or at least entertains:confused: :flipoff2:
