Dodge Ram quad cab 4x4 - 3.92 gears, 5.9L gas motor -

Currently have a BigO AT style, 265/16. Looking for something that is relatively quiet, and won't make the gas mileage worse. Not offroad much unfortunately.

What works for you?

Seriously.......... check out the BFG AT's, if that's what you're talking about.

I dont go off road much with my ram either, but when I do, I am happy I have my bfg mt's. if you see mud at all, I think it is worth it to get a mud terrain. I honestly perfer the goodyear mt/r, but I think you will lso be ahppy with the bfg's or the procomps. On the up side, you can get a buy 3 get one free from 4 wheel parts for the pro comps.

BFG MT's are a really good all around tire, I run MT's on my Scout and I use it as my tow rig. I also run on Zuk so they do well on that as well. Here is the real deal though you can BFG MT's as blems, so that my biggest point. New 35" tire minus the white letters for around $120. Or you can get a 33" for around $100...

I used to run Big-O X/Ts on my Ram. Quieter than the BFG MT and performed well on and off road. They are between a typical AT and MT tread, and they are less expensive than the BFGs. I went through the same spots my buddy did with an identical truck (year, make, model, engine, trans, lift, etc) except for he ran BFG MTs.

They are siped for great wet traction, wore well, inexpensive for 16" wheel. I ran them with no complaints on pavement, dirt, rocks and mud. No sand.

I would have bought them again if I wasn't looking for a more aggressive tire (needs changed so tires changed)

Also, Big-O has a great road hazard warranty. When I bought mine, it was full replacement as long as the tread was legal. None of this pro-rated crap. Also, free balance and rotation for the legal life as well.

Just something to think about

I just put 305/70's (33x12.5 almost) Pro Comp AT's under my pops 2000 Dodge Quad Sport (Cummins though) and they fit great. Ride nice on the road and are pretty good in the dirt for an AT. Also dropped the highway rpm's a little which is nice...

I run retreaded mud tires from http://www.hi-tec-retreading.com/
I just went to the Coves of Saguaro Lake today and climbed some pretty steep hills, they dig really well, great traction for really cheap. Mine were 50 bucks a tire and they have a 2 year warranty. Cost me 240 for 5 tires, this way I can afford to just get new ones more often.

Rule of thumb...

If the tire is not at least half your height, it's way too small.

Where/how do you do that!? I'd love to get a set of 33"s at $100 a tire next time I buy tires!

I'm looking for the same thing:-

"Looking for something that is relatively quiet, and won't make the gas mileage worse. Not offroad much unfortunately. "

I'm particularly interested in something that works well in the rain and snow, however it needs to be an all year round tire. I got a bunch of options, but I can't get an objective report on any of them. Here's the run down;

LES SCHWAB: a.k.a. Cooper, a.k.a. Avon, a.k.a. Pirelli. (Mergers  )
All Terrain SXT
Mud Terrain SXT
Wild Country RVT
Wild Country TXR

DUNLOP: Radial Rover RV

MICKEY THOMPSON: Baja Radial MTX

Anyone had expierience with any of these tires?

The Yoko geolander MT is NOT a good street tire. If you use them full-time on the street, they will wear out in less than 30k miles. At least the 15" rim size tires will. Yokohoma does not even recommend them for more than 25k miles street use. Get some BFG MTs, they will easily last 50k miles, are pretty smooth, and still do OK in the dirt.

Before anyone starts flaming them, has anyone actually used the ProComp Xterrains. I've been looking at them and they look like they would do better than the MT's ans with the way the lugs are set up they should be pretty quiet.

If you dont use it offroad much dont waste your money with mt. Go with an all terain tire. BFG is a good at tire.

Ah, so you want a tire that will be quiet and well-behaved on the road, handle well in the snow, rain, and ice, will have good mud traction, will have an aggressive enough tread pattern to do well offroad, and will not wear out quickly on the street? I know just the thing! What you need is the MagiCo MagicTire IP (Impossible Perfection). Let me tell you, these tires live up to their name! No compromises! Better traction than boggers, quieter than a street tire, never slip in the rain or ice, and they last FOREVER!

Stick with the Big O tires. I run X/T's on the Willys and Sun Valley's on my 4WD van . . . Good price . . . Relatively quiet . . . Adequate traction for mild wheeling . . . And most important they have an excellent road hazard warranty. If they'll cut me a good enough deal I may try a set of 35" M/T's on the Jeep

I've seen the Geolanders go in less that 25k Miles on a fullsize truck. Hell even one good trip with a slight alignment needed will burn those suckers up.

I had Dunlop Radial rovers on my Bronco and I hated em. They were noisey as hell on the road and I thought...HMM Atleast they will be good off road and in the snow. NOT!! I swear I felt like I was driving a 2 wheel drive truck around half the time in the snow and ice.

I think I am going to run either Toyo Open Country AT's or the Pirelli Scorpion AT's (leaning more towards the Pirelli's lately though I have heard nothing but good things about these tires.

BF Goodrich Long Trails.

Wear like iron on the road, great in snow, worthless off road.

Well yurtle is a jockey, so I guess he's good to go :flipoff2: Anywho...... I run Cooper STT's on my dd/moderate wheeler and like them a lot. Siping them took away the only complaint I had on-road (poor wet traction). Not really the sidewalls you need for hard-core off-road terrain, but good enough for moderate stuff.

If you don't want an MT, step down to the Cooper ST or Big O XT (same tread design, so just get whatever's cheapest. The Bridgestone Dueller AT REVO's are a nice tire as well for a DD.

I run the kumho 35x12.50 for the street and 36x13.50 for the rocks the kumhos are damn near the same as the bfg but a much lowere cost the noise isnt bad on my 75 bronco but a buddy of mine had the some exept 33s on a f250 and they were kinda noisy but that bad.

You guys ever try maxxis buckshot mudders? I'm fixing to be on my second set after 38k to 40k miles. Great off road, great on road, decent in snow, no problems in rain. The price isn't bad either. $507 out the door with road hazard, lifetime free rotates and balances, and new stems.

I've been through more goo then I care to remember.
Gone up loose hill climbs
burned them on the rocks
Even tried to pull the lugs off with rock corners

The only problem I have is that they love to dig in the sand. When I hit sand it's hammer down all the way, or it's shovel time.

I'd love to hear some horror stories, because thus far this tire has been my miracle tire.
