I found a 14 bolt in the weeds today at my house, almost went to the junkyard lookin for one today. It's under the back half of a truck. This is some junk my dad left layin here & I asked him what year it was. He thinks it's a 68 Chevy truck. Someone came & took the wheel bearing out the passenger side a few years ago he said but they took more than that. Anyway I'm gonna cut it out tomorrow & tear into it & see if I can use it. Can anyone tell me if it is a 68, just curious?

I dont think GM used a 14 bolt till early 70's (72-73) that truck is definitley mid 70's. Pull the cover and read the date off of the ring gear.

I would have never guessed it had a 14 bolt. :p I know that pile of junk has been sittin there at least 10 years. I had to go fix some fence & just happen to pass by it & wondered what kind of axle it's got. I couldn't believe it. I think the truck was wrecked in the front & the back end was turned into a trailer. Oh man am I a redneck. Damit I'm out of acetylene but that axle is comin out by any means necessary.:nuke:

The drums were huge, they looked like every picture I've seen of a 14bolt so I assume its a full floater.

Dammit why can't shit like this happen to me?? I guess I'll have to wait a while to have the true redneck status to have stuff like that laying around in the yard.

it is a full floater. the semi-floating 14bolts look totally different than the ff 14's.

Well looks like the 14 bolt is junk. It's rusted solid & wheels don't turn, hell nothing will turn. I pulled a shaft and it looked like it had been layin in mud. The splines were even rusted. Man that's some big & heavy axleshafts. Also the right side has been stripped down to the spindle. I think I'll try to find a more complete one in better shape. Also pulled the diff cover, rust city. Had a lot of water in it.:crybaby2: I did manage to get the gears to make about a 3/4 of a turn. There ain't nothin small about a 14 bolt.
