i believe it's out of a '69. it looks like it has the same tube size as a d30. are the tubes and shafts the same size as d30 on those early years?

not sure on the tubes....but the axle shafts do use the same 260X u-joint as a D30

You need to post a picture of this! I've read about Ford introducing the High Pinion Dana 44 but never have found one, let alone a closed knuckle HP Dana 44.

Any numbers on the case? A tag on the diff?

Measure the caps of the U-joints, that will give you the info you need. I've never read that the HP Dana 44 came with the smaller u-joints, but anything is possible.

they used the 260X u-joint in the F-100's through at least 72'

If you are thihking of using this axle for a swap, I would skip it unless you just want the center section. The closed knuckle 44s are junk, imho.
