Ok I needed a cage so I went out and a bought one for my YJ. Came with the front hoop and spreaders. No directions. So do the side spreaders go into the stock location or do you guys run those higher? Pictures would help a bunch.

If you are referring to the Smittybilt CJ padded dash cage kit, I've seen both. I've seen people run the spreaders out to where the stock spreaders are, and I've seen them in-board to mount a CB between. Conventional wisdom says that mounting them outboard is a bit safer, because there is less change of the outer hoop collapsing, but I've never seen either way collapse, assuming that the welds are done by a competant welder. GET GOOD PENETRATION. It is the difference between a cage that will save your life, and one that will potentially take it.

Well there are four spreaders. The two inside I know where they go, or have a good idea, but I wonder where to position to outer spreaders? Over to old bolt holes from the stock bar or higher?

i made mine.. but the top hoop (if you take your stock spreaders off) goes on over those 3" stubs sticking out of the rear hoop..

i take it you have a yj right? my tub and windshield are from a yj.. so if you take those two stock bars from rear hoop to windshield frame off.. there will be those stubs sticking out.. i put mine over them..

JeepGod I really like that cage design, Gonna have to still it for my buddies CJ if any ne I know gets a bender soon. Also that looks like a total Mutt jeep, TJ frame right?

that pisses off the tj owners.. especially since he out does them.. nyuck nyuck..

do you have any info on putting the cj clip on a yj frame/body?

not on my website.. about the only problem i have ran into was the fenders.. you will need to cut several inches off the bottom of them.. due to the wider frame.. i wouldnt know about the radiator.. since i am running a cj one.. so look at that..

Ok for test fit here I have my outer spreaders about 2 1/2 inches above the stock location of the spreaders. Will this function fine? The bars are not cut to go any lower, I could cut but what advantage do you get by running them 2 inches lower in the stock location vs. having them higher?

well the only advantage i could see.. would be when rolling onto that side.. they would be farther out.. keeping something from coming it.. like a rock.. but i put them there cause i didnt feel like taking them little stubs off.. so it went over them.. i havent hit the noggin yet.. but i havent rolled it since the cage install.. i might someday put some foam up there..
