ok figured it should go in this section.
i have driven manuals all my life and will be putting an auto in my CJ.
Do i need a friggen nuetral safty switch ?? seriously does it hurt an auto to be started in gear?(i doubt it but just being sure)
and i know better than to run into someone while starting my car, and i figure that is the only reason it s there.

I don't know if prolonged use that way will hurt it but I do know that it will start in gear;) The NSS went out in my daughters Scout and, for a temp fix, I jumpered the switch so it would at least start. I played around a little starting it in gear and it worked fine. It was just a couple times though, not a real test.

I ditched the neutral safety switch years ago and you can too...everything will work as it is supposed to. If you stall on an obstacle, just hit the key and go again.
The thing is, you need to remember why it's there and don't leave young kids and keys in the car!

cut the switch out and connect the ends.

I've never had one in my Jeep for the last 12yrs. Never had a problem. Except when I thought it was in N and turned it over from outside and ran myself over.

As long as you're the only one driving the Jeep you shouldn't have any problems. Just be careful who you let drive it.

I borrowed a buddies truck which didn't have a NSS, and I thought it was in park, but was in reverse. I pumped the gas a bit, turned it over, it reved up to about 1200 when it started, ran over the fence behind me. Lucky some small honda wasn't behind me, I woulda been up on the hood for sure!
