I was crawling through a local junkyard the other day and I ran into a old (1960's looking) Ford school bus. I poped open the hood and the distributor was in the back! Any Idea what motor this is? I was hoping it was a 370/429/460 so I could snag the bellhousing and flywheel, but it wasn't.

I think it is the old 'Y' Block. came in 292/312 cid as the most common sizes, but I do know there is at least one other displacement size that I just can't remember what it was.
Fords first OHV V-8.

Eric,
272/292/312 272 "the other" displacement. Yes, the old "Y" block did have the distributer in the back!

I am just going out on a limb and assume the bellhousing pattern is totally different from a 460.

looks simuler to an 'FE'. Roundish. Not '385' series at all.
"272" <smacking forhead> :emb2:
I know I'm getting old when I can't remember ALL the displacements of Ford engines........;)

Don't forget 239 and 256. :)
