I need to remove the factory A/C unit from my jeep. It's not mobile, so I can't take it to a service center to have them remove the freon. Do I need to do anything special to remove the unit from the jeep? I'm pulling the motor as well, if that makes a difference. Its on a YJ.

When I removed mine the freon had already been removed for me, the motor blew off the mounts and it pulled one of the lines off the back of the compressor.

Anyway, all you have to do is unscrew about 5 screws on the housing, there are a few electrical lines to cut, and two hoses that run into the passenger floor board.

Unless you plan on releasing that shit into the air (which is illegal by the way) you need to have it recovered into a refrigerant container. If you let that stuff into the air it can and will burn you (frost bite) not to mention blowing oil on everything.
