Ok, my 85 toyota 4 runner has been making a grinding sort of noise, but am not sure. It sounds very much like a dry, bad bearing, but i dont know myself. My idea is to pull the trans and transfer out and see what i find.

The truck makes the noise the worst when the trans is upshifted, and i have my foot off the gas. Next worse is when the trans is in nutral... and when i have the trans in gear, and my foot on the gas, the noise goes 95% away, but it is worse after the body lift is off.
A change in the noise is evedent when i mess with the transfer case, but not alot.

Now, I dont know how to tell how a bearing is bad, other than it falling apart.

Anyone know where to start looking? Anything i should look for with the trans in the truck?

Also, does anyone know where i can get the trans and transfer case seals for farily cheap?

thanks for the help.

IMO it's best to replace them all. If one has gone bad the others are not far behind.

Any good places to buy all the bearings? Perferably cheap... 5.0/aod is in the back of my mind.
