it'd suck to have $20k worth of portals under you rig and break both of them. for that much $$$$ they better not break!!!

The hydros on Tracy's Cruiser are awesome. The rear half of that thing was built by Jason Paule, the winner. The hydraulics are on all corners and can lift each side up independantly. You can see a pic of him doing it at the last ARCA event in front of the Goodyear trailer. His girlfriend is the one who finished 2nd in the womens event. he finished 12th I think in ARCA for the year. That thing kicks A$$.

I got to see the assissin break his axles. man it was crazy, he was walking up everything, but when he got to the second stage and started going up "POP" rear DS just chilin. he tried to get out of the situatiuon w/ the front and "POP" the front chillin like the rear. the funny thing is they whinched him to the beginning of the trail and left it there and when the stock modified came through you shoulda seen there eyes when they saw that thing broke

He doesn't use it on the trail. It was just to change tires. He used to use it before it was illegal. It is still on there for other comps though.

I just found out that the 2 South Dakota boys won each class. Jason Paule in Pro Mod, and Brian E. in Stock Mod. Kick A$$. SD rules.

Okay, so who makes these 48" tires, and where are some pics?

Brian E
11-13-2001, 01:27 PM
Willymutt is right,
The Twisted Customs boys from South Dakota took both classes. Jason Paule was in second going in to the finals, and finished first in the trophy class. Tracy Jordan was in first, but rolled during the finals, and ended up hitting a cone. He finished third overall.
I was in first in the stock mod. and finished first. An almost stock early '5 finished 2nd, Currie's 3rd, and a huge 4 door 'Mog finished 4th.
It was a really great time, and I got to see a ton of really cool stuff. The tires on the Assasin were kick ass. They were 48" Michelin tires he said he got from a Unimog. They were cut and grooved, pretty cool. There were waaayyyyy too many monster rigs with 44's and 2.5 ton axles. Huge rigs that couldn't do nothin'.

Good job Brian. All those late nights paid off! Did you wreck that nice paint job? Let me know when you come back out here to go wheelin. I should be ready to go. I think I got my brakes figured out and the engine doesn't leak as much anymore. Again, Congrats.

Erin

Brian E

Erin,
The paint job took a few hits. I think I was one of the only complete 360 rolls of the event. The cage held really well. Only the bar above my head was bent a little. The body sides took a really good hit that is gonna be a pain to fix, and my hood is trash. It landed on it's wheels, and fired right up. We didn't break anything during the whole event. Jason had pinion bearing lock up on him. He had to torch it out really late Thursday night, but we got it all back together.

willymutt
11-13-2001, 03:25 PM
Good thing Jason knows how to work in adverse conditions. Too bad about the hood. Did you take your windshield off before? You'll have to bring the pictures to Jason's so I can see them. Did you get any video? I need some for a presentation at school. Let me know.

We can always build you panels like the buggy you know. We are also pretty good at making the top rail, so if you want to make some fix panels let me know. That shouldn't be very hard.

You guys really kicked ass in the finals. Those killer waterfalls must be a long toyota thing. I was looking today, and I am thinking about the UROC events. They are a little closer to home, and have a few better rules. Did you guys get to see the Gecko's little "jump" up the waterfall?

Brian, You did a killer job. Were you the driver or spotter? It was cool meeting you guys. I was the guy spotting for the yellow TJ we broke on the first day. Other than Matt hittting an A gate did OK on the second, considering the lack of locker.

JReynolds Inc.

Things. They are a-changin'. New rules:

Penalties/Deducitons

1pt.= Stopping-tires not moving for 5 seconds or more

2pts= Intentionally reversing course. A reverse after a stop is only penalized as a reverse, not a stop and a reverse. Once a reverse penalty has been assesed, no further reverse penalty can be assesed until the vehicle makes forward progress.

2pts= Using rear steering between any two gates
14pts= Using a tool (winch, HiLift, strap, etc.)
20pts= Touching a cone
20pts= Exceeding the time limit
20pts= Acception outside assistance while on a stage

20pts= Pushing, pulling, lifting, etc. on the vehicle by the driver or spotter to aid its progress

20pts= Entering a stage before officially started (exception: recovery assistance)
________________________

These rules were sprung on us when we arrived. There is no hanging on the car anymore (I like this). I think these rules were made to speed things up, as the heavy penalties (such as touching a cone) would move violators on to the next stage.

According to the ARCA rules for next year http://www.rockcrawler.org/super_modified.html it looks like they will allow forced articulation in the Super Modified class.

I knew which Jeep you were I just didn't know if you were the driver or the spotter. I was the guy in the hot tub talking to Jason. I think the local guy in the speedo was :rainbow: He invited me up to his room:barf: It sucked having the locker not work from the start, but we still had fun. If Matt didn't hit the A gate on the second day we would have had second highest score. I figure I still would have. I yelled gate to him  :D We took it a little too easy on the second because we only had one axle left and still no ARB. It was too bad our buddies in the white TJ fawked up they were giving you guys a good run.

YellowCJ
11-14-2001, 10:24 PM
I am not sure exactly what gave way. It wasn't the teeth on the pinion, it was like the whole shaft broke. It could possibly have just been ujoints. Maybe the yokes? I would say that it can handle them, but one of the parts, somewhere was faulty. They were not pushing it very hard when it broke, so everybody seemed kinda surprised.

Brian E
11-15-2001, 10:08 AM
Yea, we were worried about the guys in the white TJ cathing us. I think our little position stratagy for the finals helped the 3 of us.

The Assasin broke both pinion shafts. He was getting towed out with both drivelines hanging from the t-case when I passed him. He said he had parts waitng in Pheonix to fix it for a then secret "all star run" on Tuesday.

So max tire size for ARCA is 40" right? So, they measure them aired down? Or how did the 48's get in there?

Thanks,
